Simply awful. I brought my son who wanted some Italian. He wanted Eastside Mario's but I suggested local, family owned, you know, legit. But was I wrong. We were greeted by a very friendly young man and were quickly situated in our table, the table was sticky from poor cleaning, mind you it was 4:00pm on Sunday and had just opened for dinner service, immediately after we were offer focacia bread, that was a very nice gesture and I do appreciate that, but the bread was hard and cold as if being left outside for hours. It would have immensely benefited from having it warmed a few seconds on the oven (if they have one, I doubt). We were offered a garaffe of water and served water by another young man, that was nice too, no issues here, menu's were brought promptly and we were made to feel welcome, so despite the cold, stale bread, and tacky tabletop things were moving along at a reasonable pace given the fact the place was empty and the atmosphere sterile from the lack of trattoria minucia, which the establishment fancies itself to be. So we dive in to discover what goods we could find on the menu's selection. My son immediately discover a typo which was a bit of fun thing to see him do as I've never seen him do that before. A minor thing that could and happens more often than not. OJ JIUCE. Well he is all for lasagna and I was very excited to find black truffle linguini. After deciding on our entrees I asked the server about the truffle pasta if it was sliced table side. The answer was not, rather it was a paste sauce dish, so despite my better judgment I consented cus I have not had blk truffle dish in a while. My son ordered the OJ JIUCE and I order the 9oz Masi Pinot Grigio a personal favorite. And we'll this is where things just went to the crapper quickly. We got our drinks by yet another person, no fault here on part of the restaurant they had expected a table of seven that canceled last minute as told by our server in passing, the lady from the bar was strangely shaky and I couldn't understand what she shaked so much. At any rate we had our drinks and my son tasted his OJ and was surprised how sweet it was and offered me to try it. I did, it was from the big box store and not what you would expect from a restaurant that is charging top dollar for OJ. My $13 dl glass of pilot grigio was watered down I swear it was, or at least was not Masi. So I'm already not happy but I only see my son once a week and don't want to ruin the mood we had going on through the day. 15 mins and food arrives, again timing is good no issues here, but the shaking lady is so uncomfortable with her own job is pain to watch. The plates are placed and immediately I'm trying really hard hold my disappointment, she offers grated parmesan cheese, which is not real parmesan, perhaps a locally made pecorino and nothing to with Grana Padano, the pasta, a mountain worth, Is a papardelle with regular sliced Zeta buton mushrooms, cold and watery. I mean watery, no sauce, no "paste" to be found. It is not only cold and undercooked, the pasta breaks in my mouth as if eating wet cardbox. It has been more that 18 years since I return a dish. Well today was that day. I was not willing to pay $38. For a deficient dish. I call our server and tell him the dish is not on par. He asked if there was something wrong to wish I answered ten things but just didn't like it and wanted to take it back. Well to no surprise the owner who all the white was sitting at the end of the bar micromanaging the 4 members of her staff came right away to ask ( rather correct me) what was wrong with the dish. I told her it was undercooked, watery, and no paste was found on the sauce (if you can call that a sauce) After being educated on her imaginary saviness we were left alone and allow to sip my insipid wine, while son very affected by my sudden reaction took to eating his again sauce starved lasagna. Don't even get me started on the "Lasagna " suffice to say that I felt awful for my son and he just finished his dish as fast as possible. At the end the bill...
Read moreI give this restaurant 4 1/2 stars We visited Bacio Trattoria on a Saturday evening. We had made reservations but it wasn't very busy at the moment. We were promptly greeted by our lovely waiter Miguel, he was VERY nice an amazing host. The service and the atmosphere deserve the 5 stars, this is my very personal opinion about the food and why I withdraw half a star. We ordered the Margherita pizza, the Spaghetti alla Puttanesca and the special of the day, whole bass with potatoes and salad. The fish was delicious, perfectly cooked, crispy skin on the outside and flaky and juicy on the inside. My husband's actual comment about it was "the Chef really knows what he is doing". The side salad was nicely dressed with a vinaigrette and the potatoes were cooked properly. Ok, this is where it gets tricky, although the pasta sauce was delicious, ( I ordered without anchovies) with the capers and olives I think it made it a bit too salty. The pasta noodles were freshly cooked but again a bit overcooked for my liking, if you like your pasta Al Dente you can ask (as I learned after the fact) to cook it so. The pizza was very simple, fresh made and the ingredients were beautiful just the pizza dough perhaps on the thick side. We got to meet the Chef/owner afterwards he was very pleasant and happy to hear our positive feedback. I do recommend this restaurant 100%, a must visit if you are looking for a quiet and exquisite, not outrageously pricey, date or evening out. They serve a wide selection of wines and liquors as well as beer on tap and bottle and soft drinks. Complimentary bread, pesto butter and olives...
Read moreMade a trip out to Barrie for my wife and I’s third anniversary. We seen the menu online as well as the reviews. In regards to the menu; Everything from the layout, to the pricing, and the ingredients used, made us feel this would be a really nice and upscale place to dine.
Sadly that wasn't the case. The environment is just a mom and pop scale of an East Side Marios. Bright floors, tacky lighting (as well as the bar lights), cluttered walls, and music videos playing on the TVs. Certainly not the environment you’d expect looking at both the website and menu.
The food, I ordered the Quattro Formaggi and she ordered the Penne alla Vodka. The Penne alla Vodka is advertised as a rosé sauce, it didn’t have more than one tablespoon of creme in it. Unfortunately, that means she was left with a sour tomato dish because I presume the tomato sauce had begun to ferment and develop that sour taste.
As for the Quattro Formaggi, it was literally flavourless. I truly wish I was stretching the truth about this, but it tasted like Wonderbread soaked in canola oil. There wasent any noticeable blue cheese even on the pizza. It’s almost like was just coated with ricotta and missing the other three cheeses. I ended up ordering more of the bread they give you with parsley and just ate that instead. It somehow had more flavour.
As a fellow restauranteur, I honestly don’t know how this establishment still has a 4.7 rating. Very...
