My wife and I decided to do dinner here because we had heard good reviews of the place and wanted to give it a shout ourselves. We knew it would be a little pricier given the type of restaurant and anticipated elevated experience compared to a chain restaurant and just below what would be expected of a high-end restaurant.
Overall, however, we were largely not impressed. Now don’t get me wrong the food was generally good but I would argue there were plenty of details that are important given the higher price point.
For atmosphere, you can tell they’re going for an intimate, close environment but it definitely felt more outdated and a little dingy. Seating was not super comfortable either but it seemed to be pretty clean.
For the service, the host and the server were generally pleasant and no issues there. However, and arguably maybe this isn’t service, I have to say I’m surprised that a location at a higher general price point has to ask if I need a glass for my drink - it should just be assumed I would like a glass (and preferably a chilled glass). Additionally, my wife’s drink was not mixed well and she didn’t end up finishing it. To add to that, probably a minor issue but adds to the overall experience is that if you offer an appetizer/starter salad, there should be enough cutlery for me not to have to reuse my dirty fork for the entree that I used for the salad (just a fork and knife combo at a higher priced location seems ill thought out - should be at least a salad/dessert fork included)
The food was pretty good and the options are definitely unique which was cool to see. Our salads were great but the entrees were a little less than what we expected. Specifically the potatoes seemed to be undercooked and not very well seasoned but the meat of our meal was pretty good (but not excellent). The desserts were actually quite nice and so overall with the strong starter and the pleasant dessert along with a pretty decent entree left this with the highest score.
Overall this feels more like dinner at your grandmas place which is great and all but not at all worth the price point offered. With some tweaks and upgrades to the facility and small attention to details, this rating could have been substantially higher. The bones are there and this is obviously a popular gem of the city but I think it’s losing its touch. They’ll need to upgrade the experience to stay relevant in the changing community...
Read moreNOT ALLERGY SAFE. NOT GLUTEN FREE. My parents & I ate at Casa Mia last night. We wish we hadn't. The menu looked great so we gave it a try. We have Celiac disease & I have several other allergies (including dairy) but the restaurant said they could accommodate us. After my parents ordered (I always go last due to my dairy allergy), I asked about the grilled chicken, if it was dairy free & do they grill on a separate flattop. Our server (who was jovial and very attentive at first) told me no they grill EVERYTHING ON THE SAME GRILL BESIDE EACH OTHER (so bread is toasted beside food that is listed as gluten-free on the menu). Well my parents had to change their order immediately. My parents ordered cheesy escargot and baked shrimp which they enjoyed. All of us ended up with Greek salad (which was bizarre as it had dill...my parents salads had virtually no dressing which they described as closer to a ranch dressing (on a Greek salad???) and the feta they had was powdery and dry. I couldn't even have dressing because apparently they put dairy in it. Last I checked, Greek salad dressing was made of olive oil, lemon juice, oregano, salt & pepper. So I ate a few bites of my salad WITH NOTHING ON IT. Thankfully the lettuce & veggies were very fresh and juicy so it wasn't dry but still very disappointing. The moment our server realized we weren't ordering a huge meal, he stopped being attentive to us (he's the very very tall guy with tattoos). He actually had the gall to ask if I was enjoying my meal. ARE YOU SERIOUS?! No I wasn't enjoying it because I like salad with dressing & besides my bottled water there wasn't a single thing on the menu I could eat safely. We will definitely NEVER be back. DON'T LABEL ITEMS ON YOUR MENU AS GLUTEN-FREE IF IT'S CONTAMINATED WITH BREAD & BREADED ITEMS ON A GRILL. YOU WILL SERIOUSLY...
Read moreWent last night was my second time dining in During the beginning of the service the waitress was attentive, however that changed after food was ordered and brought out. We ordered the Calamari it tasted decent tzatziki was good. Ordered a bottle of wine also good. However one dish was the pasta and veal. One dish was the chicken souvlaki dinner. Both good portions, looked good at first sight. I ate a few bites of mine then realized there was a hair between my teeth which I couldn’t get out and within seconds my boyfriend cut into his veal for the first bite flipped it over and there plain as day was a hair.(he cut and flipped it so it was underneath not on top) Waitress came to check and see how first bites were we both stopped eating I discreetly told her what happened she took both dishes to the back and we were left waiting for a good 5-10 mins she then came back out said it was off the bill and left. We waited at the table finished the wine cause it was a closed bottle so nothing was wrong with it. However she left us waiting for 15-20 mins. We had to get up and meet her by the door to pay for the wine. I definitely feel like someone should have come out a lot faster after knowing that 2 hairs on 2 different dishes were found and one actually ended up in my mouth. Even tho the food Was good up until that point I...
