We went there on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Place wasn't very busy, so we didn't wait for a table, and food was served fairly fast!
We ordered Sakedon, Gyoza, one Toro nigiri special, and a Blue Mountain Roll. Everything was delicious. Portions, flavours and texture were great not to mention that their plating was very impressive and authentic. Price for us (2 adults, and one kid) was $72 after taxes. Dunno, what mayority of people except to pay at a Japanese restaurant but to me it was definitely worth it!
Umai's interior deco is very minimal and very pleasing. A few lovely pictures and that's it. Beautiful!
Their washroom was extremely clean (some people might not care about this but to me cleanliness in a washroom says a lot about the place). Anyway, not only was it super clean it was very also nicely decorated. Only thing it needs it's a diaper changer (Mom here).
Atmosphere was also good. It's a very nice spot for couples, for families, friends, and any type of reunions. It's on a plaza so, parking it's easy and it's also wheelchair accessible!
Service was great. Server asked us about any allergies after ordering and was always very attentive.
Don't have that many photos cuz I was paying more attention to my crazy baby, lol. But I can't wait to go back again and hopefully will remember to take more then.
Thanks to all the staff. Please keep doing what...
Read moreServers are very friendly but came on a bit strong. Just sat down with daughter, 2 minutes later server asked if we’re ready to order. I ended up panic ordering so I didn’t get to order anything fun. I felt rushed the whole time. Even the bill came very quickly. They were very nice but felt insistent like I felt like I couldn’t say no. Good if you know what you want and are in a rush. If you want a calm, unrushed meal… go elsewhere. Sweet potatoes in the roll were a bit undercooked. Spicy salmon was just siracha and salmon. C4 (tempura shrimp roll with eel on top— was missing tobiko) was good but small in size. Takoyaki was very wet on the inside and it’s mostly batter (I’ve never had such a wet one before not sure if it’s undercooked or meant to be a wet ball, flavour was good though), banana brûlée was nice! Going here is a bit out of the way for me, so I probably won’t be back but their lunch combos seem like a good deal. Im going to say quality isn’t bad, service was nice but too rushed. Clean spot but on...
Read moreWe had dinner here tonight with friends after I read reviews on Google and saw pics from Instagram. I can’t say we were disappointed! The staff were so friendly, giving us lots of time to decide what we want. Didn’t bat an eye at the amount of food I ordered (which to be fair I did share with the table but it was still a lot!) and everything came out quick and freshly made. I wish I had remembered to take photos but we were so hungry and it all looked so good it was completely forgotten as we dug in.
The star dishes were the Chicken rolls (we had both the teriyaki and the spicy miso versions), the beef teriyaki rolls and the cucumber avocado rolls. My friend had the scallop roll and she loved it.
We got there at about 7pm on Saturday and there were other folks in the restaurant but it wasn’t loud. The atmosphere was casual and comfortable and we really enjoyed ourselves. We will be back for sure! Thank you so much for a...
