Me and my parents found this place by chance. My parents are in their mid 70's and are British as am I. Up Yer kilt is in a little strip mall with east Indian food stores, pizza place's and another small night club. My dad spotted the sign as we drove by (he's got a nose for sniffing pubs out). Not what you would expect in this area.
Does not look very big from the outside. Wow !! that's what we said when we walked in. Its a small pub only about 20' wide by 50' deep i would guess, (didn't have a tape measure), I would call it a true British/Scottish/Irish pub, not a bar or jock sports bar or restaurant. ( they do have a bunch of TVs on with soccer and what not if your into that).
Jason the one bartender has been there forever, really nice guy. The pints are cheap in opinion, under $6 for an import for the ones I drank (about $7 or$ 9 at any where else decent that I have been). We were there I believe on a Friday and had a huge fish & chip plate for about $10 (special), the tarter sauce was crappy but the main part (chips & fish) was great especially for $10. Has a large sit up bar but we usually sit on the large raised padded bench's with resin covered tables with old newspaper clippings & pics glued to them, supported by chunks of tree trunk and the cross foot rests are wrapped in some tartan fabrics. That way we can watch the many locals that come and go and see all the nick-nacks around the room
The decor is fantastic, just like the pubs I have seen in the UK & Scotland. Full of kilts, old English baby prams, pictures and what ever else the owner found to nail to the wall. Every time I go there I see something that I missed last time. If your thirsty and what a nice pint I would definitely recommend it. Unfortunately we live 4 hours north of this pub if not it would be a regular hangout for us. we go there every time we are In Toronto area. We are also pub owners ourselves and this review is truthful in every way ( not written by a...
Read moreUp Yer Kilt Pub is a real gem! The atmosphere takes you straight into an old-school bar, just like in the movies. The design has been beautifully preserved, making it a perfect spot for lovers of vintage and antiques. The wooden tables, wall décor, and warm lighting create the feeling of being in a unique downtown basement bar.
The food, sauces, and beer were absolutely delicious! A special shoutout to hostess Jennifer, who was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Her relaxed and cheerful approach made us feel right at home.
We will definitely be back—especially since they have live music on Fridays. Highly recommend for anyone who loves cozy and...
Read moreI did not order food but had two very properly poured Guinness beers. I had to kill an hour before my local hotel room was ready in the afternoon. The outside of the building is sketchy and I almost left without going in. That would have been a mistake. I loved the inside and the service was excellent. I wish I could remember the bartenders name as she was good. I'll be back next time I am in town even if my hotel room is ready. The only thing to note is I was told the road in front of the hotel can get very busy during rush hour...
