This place is simply spectacular! They start by getting all the basics down correctly, the rice is soft, the seaweed isn’t chewy, and the fish is fresh and high quality. This is not a given anymore in Vancouver’s sushi scene. But the positives just builds from there! I pretty much get a spicy tuna cone everywhere I go, and I can say with confidence that this is one of the best ones I’ve ever had. I always hate when you order spicy tuna and it’s sweet instead of spicy and this place does it right and fills it with enough protein. I also got the tuna and salmon belly aburi nigiri which were fantastic, especially the salmon one. Nothing was fishy which shows the quality of the seafood being served. For the main rolls I got the Philadelphia roll Fantastic roll, New west roll, snowy mountain. I really like that these rolls went against the latest Vancouver trend of drenching everything in 3 types of sauces, and actually served sushi that you can taste every ingredient. I liked the new west roll and the Philadelphia roll the most, but everything was honestly great. The service and cleanliness of the restaurant is also impeccable. The severs were very nice, funny, and caring and on top of everything. The sushi chefs were also very nice and genuinely cared about if we enjoyed the food. Ordering is also made easy since they have pictures of every item so you don’t get any surprises which makes the whole process easier. The sushi place I used to go to in burnaby served me near frozen temperature rice, and I also got tired of eating sushi soaking in sauces at the places downtown. This place is a saving grace and I’m gonna be coming here moving forward. They also have good combinations / lunch specials If you’re dining alone or want to try something new they have specials of the week. Overall great location, prices, food, staff, you really can’t ask for more. Can’t wait to be back next time I’m in town!

I stopped into Sanjo because the place I usually go to was closed, and the speciality inari nigiris they had caught my eye! The atmosphere was clean and bright and the service was quick and friendly. The music selection (alternating between pop dance + lo-fi) I found a little odd, though that could just be my preference of lower key music in brighter restaurants like this one. I was immediately served tea, and ordered the crunch dynamite roll, agedashi tofu and 4 of the inari nigiri (beef, California, tamago, avocado) The Crunch Dynamite Roll had a great combination of flavors, but the shock of the crab being very cold and the crunch flakes being slightly chewy took away from that a bit. The Agedashi Tofu was different from what I'm used to, normally being served in the sauce broth but at Sanjo they give a small amount of sauce on the side, but the lower quantity of sauce was made up for in the seasoning add to the tofus breading, it didn't need as much sauce for that reason. I very much enjoyed it. The inari were admittedly larger than I expected, so definitely worth their prices, but I found them a little difficult to eat, falling apart pretty quickly after the first bite. My favorite was the beef, the ratio between the sauce and ingredients were perfect. The California I found disappointing, there was just too much crab. The Tamago was alright but the egg was quite flavorless. The Avocado I ended up taking home because they were much more filling than I expected! All in all it was a good experience, and I look forward to returning to try some of their other dishes!

Sanjo Sushi is a fantastic sushi spot nestled in Brow of the Hill at 546 6th Street  . Formerly known as Ton Ton Sushi, it reopened in late 2022 under new ownership and has since built a reputation for fresh, flavourful, and thoughtfully crafted dishes  . What you’ll find This family owned gem offers a wide range of sushi, set meals and Japanese style dishes. A popular choice is the Teishoku San dinner set, which delivers excellent value for sushi lovers  . Other standout dishes include crispy chicken karaage and the spicy tuna cone, both frequently praised in reviews  . Guests rave about the presentation too. The salmon oshi (pressed sushi) and assorted sashimi are particularly appreciated for their fresh ingredients and appealing plating   . The menu also features vegetarian‑friendly items like the Mori set, perfect for plant based diners  . Service and atmosphere Sanjo Sushi maintains a cosy and welcoming atmosphere with attentive service. Staff are often described as friendly and approachable, contributing to a strong neighbourhood vibe  . Why it stands out With a Google rating of around 4.5 stars from hundreds of reviews, Sanjo Sushi is consistently recognised for its quality, portion sizes, and relaxed dining experience   . It strikes a fine balance between casual neighbourhood dining and refined sushi offerings.

I ate sushi very often at this sushi restaurant. Because this restaurant is near my home and work place. But when I went to this restaurant not long ago, I was shocked. And I didn't want to go to this restaurant again.

The servers and cooks were judging the appearance of customers and evaluating the age of customers in their language and talking behind customers backs. I was very uncomfortable.

A lady customer took out the food. Then the server evaluated the lady's face. The server said that the customer's face is very old for her age. Cook asked server how she knew. The customer whose face was evaluated by the server was a regular customer of the restaurant, and she said she knew the exact age because she looked her vaccine ID and photo ID card.

Then cook agreed to the server's evaluation. And continued to evaluate other people's faces. Looks ugly things like that.;;

I was so unpleasant as a person who understood their language.

Of course, they can go to their own places and talk about such things. However, I don't think it's right to say like that. They seemed to say so, convinced that the customers would not understand what they were saying. I'm sure the next target was me.

I won't go to this restaurant because I don't want them to evaluate my appearance/face/age/how I eat.

If you don't mind them evaluating your appearance/age/face, doesn't matter if you go. You won't understand what they're saying anyway, so it won't hurt your feelings. Or if you look perfect, I recommend...
