My first visit to Yiannis Greek Taverna in New Westminster was a pleasant surprise. Located inside a mall, the restaurant offers plenty of free parking and a separate entrance from the outside. Initially, the small door from the mall and the dim lighting made us unsure if it was open. My daughter even asked, “Is it open? Why is it so dark in there?” However, once inside, we were greeted by a warm and inviting ambiance. Despite it being 6 PM on a bustling Saturday, we managed to snag one of the last tables. Our server was exceptionally friendly and accommodating, although she did forget to place our order and my daughter’s apple juice. After a 40-minute wait, she apologized sincerely, assured us she would expedite our order, and offered us complimentary dessert as a gesture of goodwill. When our food finally arrived, it was worth the wait. The portions were generous, and I ended up taking some home. I had the roast lamb, which was incredibly tender and fell off the bone. My daughter, a notoriously picky eater, enjoyed her salmon in tomato sauce, possibly because of the long wait. My husband had the lamb souvlaki, and our friend tried the potato-crusted cod—both dishes were delicious. To top off our meal, our server brought us ek mek, a Greek dessert, on the house. Despite my usual preference for chocolate desserts, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Overall, Yiannis Greek Taverns exceeded our expectations, and I wouldn’t hesitate to return the next time I’m craving Greek cuisine.

Extremely Disappointed – Longtime Loyal Customers Let Down We have been loyal customers of Yiannis for many years, ordering takeout every couple of weeks and frequently hosting family and corporate dinners here. Sadly, last night’s experience was the worst we’ve ever had. We ordered our usual dinner for pickup, including the lamb meal we always get. When we got home, we were shocked to find the lamb dish was almost entirely bone and cartilage — barely three bites of actual meat. It was completely unacceptable. We called the restaurant right away, expecting a reasonable conversation and outcome. Instead, the girl who answered the phone was incredibly rude and dismissive. She repeatedly said, “Yeah no, that’s just how it is.” That is absolutely not how it is — we know, because we order this dish regularly. It was the size of my wifes palm of her hand the whole thing, full of large bones and cartilage. Her attitude was disrespectful and unhelpful, making an already disappointing situation worse. To top it off, the salad that was supposed to come with the lasagna was also missing. For the amount we pay regularly, we expect consistency in quality and at the very least, respectful customer service. We received neither. This experience was beyond disappointing and unacceptable. We will not be ordering from or dining at Yiannis again! -Henry

We ordered food from Uber eats and I have to say this is the worst greek food I have ever had in my life. We wasted almost $100 on food we cannot eat. I’m going to bed hungry tonight. We ordered the veggie platter and saganaki. 1. No spinach in the spanakopita- thin and soggy - what? 2. Pita came in a pool of water and was ruined and soggy. 3. They did not send the tzatziki at all 4. The Greek salad was soggy like it had been sitting for days. 5. The mousakka was stuffed with whole bagged / peeled carrots in it - the ones you send your kid to school with because figure too lazy to cut nice fresh ones. You’re a restaurant- cut fresh carrots. 6. They sent a side of the same bagged carrots just boiled and nothing to them on the side as well. Saganaki was Mediocre and we ate it and hummus was good but too bad we had no pita to eat it with… Nothing is ever as good when you order it but this is all inedible. I would call and complain and ask for a replacement if was just a mistake but it was so bad I’ll chalk it up to a loss. Horrible horrible food.

Dec. 18/23 @ 7:45pm. I am a woman in my late 60's, and I have been a regular customer at this restaurant for about 2 years. After how I was harassed tonight, I will never return. Staff on shift: Owner named Paul Waitress #1: Martina (took my money) Waitress #2: Kim (she said she was also the Manager). Since Kim was Indo-Canadian - I suspect Kim is not her legal name. My bill was $24.24 I went up to the bar to pay as usual - and a new waitress named Martina took my money. I have always given the waitresses there between $2. and $3. tip, and tonight was no different. I paid Martina in cash. I gave her:- (1) $20. dollar bill (1) $10. dollar bill (1) toonie I asked for a $5. dollar bill in change - stating the rest ($2.75) is for a tip. Martina gave me a $5. in change and I said thank you and Martina replied "thank you!" I went to the washroom and while in there - I noticed Martina opened the door - then closed it. She then came inside the washroom and told me that I short changed her and I owe her $10. dollars? I explained how I paid (see above) and the Manager Kim said they were not used to dealing in cash because they don't normally receive it. Martina came back stating - I only have (1) $10. bill in the cash register, and that came from another customer. When I spoke to the owner 'Paul' - manager 'Kim' got verbally aggressive - interupting and raising her voice loudly. I told her to stop interupting me, but she refused (what a nasty women - treating me like this). In the end - the owner 'Paul' said "I told you sorry" - but sorry came too late - and after I stated I will never come back here again. Kim was grinning (she was quite satisfied with herself) and she was giving me the snake eye as she sipped her drink. The restaurant was kind of empty (unfortunately for me) as people witnessing me being harassed and disrespected would have been bad for their business. I said 'Merry Christmas' and left. Kim (the East Indian waitress) called me a racist as I walked out - but I believe Kim is the racist and that may be why I was targeted for harassment in the 1st place. It was downright rude the way she yelled at me when I was just explaining my bill payment to the owner Paul. WOW - some people are so...

We usually lick the hummus and tzatziki dry and there is never any left, we barely ate it last night and my husband said they both tasted "funky" I noticed they didn't taste the same either. We threw most of it away. Plus the containers got smaller and now they aren't even being filled up all the way.. Pita bread was over cooked and rock solid, we even took a video hitting it on the table it was so ridiculous. I can send the video if im given an email since there is only a phone number on your site. We asked for extra lemon wedges, via the online order AND I called to confirm and ask again/make sure, they said "of course no problem".. We were given only the 1 lemon in the souvlaki order. I asked for a side of carrots and potatoes because I'm recovering from oral surgery and can't eat certain things. The carrots were covered in rice, something I can't eat because it can get trapped in the incision and cause infection. I specifically didn't order a platter because I can't eat the rice. The spanakopita was underfilled and way over cooked, it was burnt. Overall extremely dissapointed with our order and angry we spent almost $80 for burnt food that we barely could eat. We are usually very happy with our food, but this time left such a bad taste in our mouths we won't be ordering from here again since nobody cares to address this. No response to review, no response to the email they send out asking how things were. They...
