A little while ago, I noticed a new spot called Agra Tandoori open up next to Pokerrito in the Market Crossing area of Burnaby. It’s a tiny shop that, you guessed it, serves up East Indian cuisine.

On my first visit, I decided to try a staple that many westerners associate with Indian food… namely Butter Chicken. Instead of coming with rice, I ordered the Butter Chicken with Naan ($12.95) and added the Mango Lassi ($3.75) – which is a yogurt-based drink. I thought the butter chicken here was quite good and they give you a generous serving size for lunch. There’s plenty of sauce so if you like to sop up all that buttery goodness, it might be a good idea to get some rice with it. That being said, the naan was good too and had a soft and fluffy interior with a crisp exterior that made for a pleasant chew. Heat-wise, they let you specify the level of spiciness for your dish and I found that “medium” worked out with the cooling tartness of the lassi helping to ease the heat.

On my second visit, I opted for the Lamb Sheesh Kabob with Naan ($13.95) prepared with minced lamb formed into a skewer shape and mixed with onions and served with chutney. It’s a fairly meaty dish and the chutney here is really the key to offset the somewhat dryness of the dish.

Now, I’ve always held a soft spot in my heart for a good vindaloo (must have been all those late nights watching Red Dwarf). The Chicken Vinadaloo ($13.95) that I ordered here had plenty of thick and meaty chicken pieces. While the medium spice level isn’t very spicy, the sauce is tasty and goes well with rice. So instead of ordering this with naan, I opted for Pulao Rice ($4.50) instead, which consisted of long grain basmati rice with peas. Overall, I found the chicken to be a little too meaty and dry for my liking.

On my last visit, I tried the Bombay Fish Curry ($12.95) which had very tender white fish that absorbed the flavour of the curry.

In all, I found that the flavours here were pretty good. They do offer take-out so make sure to pay them a visit and support your local business.

Update Apr 2024: I used to come here all the time for lunch when I worked in the area. Now we usually just get takeout. But decided to have their dinner special combo and some samosas recently. It's a good value and plenty of...

The most horrible experience I had with an Indian restaurant in my entire life. These people are highly unprofessional and have the worst customer service. Once they have sold the food to you and then they are done, they don't bother if you don't get what you have ordered in the packed container. It happened to me on Sunday 07 August I was on return to my home with my family after a long trip and it was getting late, and the food was to be ordered. So I called this restaurant, Burnaby location to order dinner for my family. I ordered dal makhani, paneer makhani, chicken curry, tandoori fish, everything medium hot spice level with some naan and rice. But what I got was different dal but not dal makhani, paneer makhani tasted ultimate sweet like a dessert, chicken curry had hair in it and was sweet rather being bit spicy and tandoori fish was floating in water when I opened the box. But as it was 10 pm and had no other option of ordering from some where else, we managed to eat it. Then too I didn't write any bad reviews as I was like we all are humans and mistakes happen. I called the restaurant next day and spoke to Sukhman about my experience, she told me that their manager Savneet will call me the next day after 5pm. I waited until 8 pm next day and called back again and then another rude lady on the phone told me that she don't know anything and Sukhman will call me back as she was on break at that time. I waited for another 1 hour and called them back and Sukhman told me that she was super busy that's why she never called me but made sure that the manager Savneet will call me right away. And now it's been three days after my last conversation, nobody called me to listen to my complaint. So after being very courteous and polite to these insensitive so called professionals I am forced to write down all this. They didn't even bother to listen to the customer and have no courtesy for their customers. If it was possible I would have given negative 10 stars. I will definitely not going there again to waste my time and money. As I don't know what l will get for what I have ordered. Will never ever go back there. Special mention for Sukhman and Savneet for not being professional and courteous for...

We had guests over yesterday and decided to order food from here and have a little bash. The person that took our order on the phone was a little rude and was rushing me to get off the phone. We finally ordered. Waited an hour for our food to arrive. The delivery guy was nice.

First impression: dissaponting. For $160 I expected to get better quality food. The briyani was not fresh at all. It was inedible. Butter chicken was mostly sauce and only a few small pieces of chicken. The vindaloo was the same and it was very watery. The paneer was good. The naan bread was good the garlic naan was dissaponting to say the least. It was again obvious that it wasn't fresh like the regular naan.

We had 4 little kids to feed and couldn't bother going back to the restaurant for correction or waiting on other food to arrive so we ate what we could.

Within 30 minutes my wife got very sick. We assumed it was just a sensitivity to the spices but then a few hours later, everyone that ate the food got very sick. Have you watched the bridesmaids movie? Remember that scene? Yup that was us over here. My wifes stomach is still a mess. She hasn't been able to even keep water down.

I called the restaurant but they didn't seem to care for the feedback I provided. Sharing my experience so others can be cautious. If the food looks off, or any aspect of it just doesn't seem fresh to you...you're better off tossing it. Don't put your self in harm's way like we did.

If I could give this place zero...

Come check out the Bite of Burnaby menu at Agra Tandoori Market Crossing with us! They have a 3-course vegetarian menu for $25 per person, or non-vegetarian for $30 per person. It's our first time here so to maximize, we chose two different items per course. Overall, the portion size was bigger than I expected and flavour was good. We ordered everything medium in heat level but I think we could do spicier than that. With two drinks, a Strawberry Lassi and a Masala Chai, the bill came to about $71 before tips. We had a bunch of leftovers that would be enough for another meal! Here's what we had: Appetizer: Chicken and Fish Pakora (we liked the fish one more) Main: Butter Chicken & Lamb Vindaloo (they were both tasty), plus naan and rice Dessert: Gulab Jamun & Ras Malai (a definite yes to Gulab Jamun for me) #biteofburnaby #indianfood #foodtiktok #vancouverrestaurant #burnaby Indian Food in Burnaby / Best Restaurant in Vancouver / Food Blog

Won't be ordered from this restaurant anymore. If you're looking at this review, you should think twice about coming here. We placed an order on the website. My wife went to pick it up, the first thing she noticed was that the in-person order total was different than the website's order total. When she brought it up with the clerk, she was dismissed and handed a menu to see the prices. Now to the part where it's quite concerning. My wife was almost home when i received a call from the restaurant. They told me that the order that was given to my wife was incorrect and asked her to come back. My wife brought the food back to the restaurant and they packaged it into someone else's order to go. We didn't do anything to the food, but that is extremely scary if they will openly take "returned" food back and re-serve it to others. My wife was offered a free pop for her troubles. Beware this restaurant!
