Honestly i think the regular prices of $12 per main entree (aka "chow bowls") are overpriced. I can name several restaurants on the top of my head at a similar price range that have bigger portions and are tastier. On this trip, I went with 3 of my friends. They had 2 for 1 coupons effectively bringing the price of the main dishes down to $6 each. I tried the kung pao chicken. The textures of the onions, walnuts, chicken and the peppers were nice and the chicken were well cooked. it was very spicy and made me cough. However, i think they add too much rice at half of the whole dish. they should add more ingredients and a little less rice. Also, the whole thing was kind of bland. Only after i added a dash of light soy sauce it tasted OK. My first friend tried the bbq shrimp and pork fried rice. he liked it. i tried a little bit and it was tasty. no problems there. my 2nd friend tried the singapore fried cashew shrimp noodle. he liked it but they added too much veggies compared to the other ingredients. my 3rd friend ordered the beef chow fun (flat and thick rice noodles) and she thought they added way too many onions. so much onions that it ruined the taste of the dish. On the plus side, the service here is fast and friendly, and i like that there's a lot of condiments available at each table if you need a bit of extra flavor. Fortune cookies are a nice touch, though i tasted better ones elsewhere. TL;DR Overall, this place is OK. $12 is high for the quality/portion of the dishes given. Basically the food is alright. Nice fried rice. It's better than your average food court for sure. Not sure if i...
Read moreI came to Chow Noodle Bar at Grand Villa famished today, but what I witnessed completely ruined the experience. The supervisor on duty was shockingly rude and abrasive toward an older cashier who appeared to be working alone at the front.
What stood out was the way he repeatedly and harshly demanded that she not take any orders past 11 PM—something he could’ve communicated professionally and once. Instead, he barked the order multiple times, then threatened to write her up is she didn’t comply. The way he said it—laced with disdain—was deeply uncomfortable to witness. You could see the poor employee shrink into herself in fear and submission. This was at 5:30 pm.
As a paying customer, it was upsetting to watch a staff member be treated with such a lack of respect and basic human decency. It gave off the vibe of an oppressive work environment, not a welcoming restaurant. This kind of behavior is unacceptable, especially in a public-facing role.
Management needs to seriously reevaluate what leadership looks like. Perhaps a crash course in respect, communication, and people management is overdue—and if they don’t pass, they get written up.
Until that happens, I’ll be thinking twice about...
Read moreLocated inside the Grand Villa Casino this small kiosk type eatery is usually lined up upon opening at 11am on a weekday (can only imagine on weekends). We always order the pai thai (comes with shrip & chicken) and beef chow fun. The chinese dishes are always super authentic tasting (good wok taste) and the pai thai is not super authentic but does the job. The prices are ok for the portions you receive but honestly there isn't many easy take out asian choices in this area so I see many people who work around the hood get take out here. Great self-serve condiments (they provide plastic take out mini containers for sauces) for take out order. Sometimes you can wait up to 15 minutes for your take-out order (just sit at a table with you order # metal stand). Most times they give you fortune cookies with your take out order but not always so if you want them just ask. Cashier service is a hit/miss .. sometimes friendly sometimes not. It's ok we don't expect first class service here but the...
