Buckle in, this one's a long read Saturday October 14, 2023, my son took his grandma out for dinner to this Dairy Queen. This is a treat for him when my wife and I go out for an evening. He gets quality time with grandma & enjoys what was his favorite place for fast food. That evening he walks in and orders his food & the staff start asking him if he's one of the students banned from the store, this catches him off guard as he literally has no idea what they're talking about. They ask his name (he only gives his first, not last) & they all go "oh yeah, you're on the list" My son & his grandma are asking what list, what are you accusing him of & they only said he's on a list of troublemaker students provided by a teacher at Burnaby North. They leave, my son embarrassed & very upset, calls us to advise of what just transpired. My wife calls the store right away & puts the call on speaker phone. The young lady that answers immediately back pedals & apologizes to us. She mentions this list from the school several times (also says Starbucks & Safeway in Kensington shopping center have the same list. I went to both places & no such list), supposedly some kids from Burnaby North ran behind the counter & caused a ruckus (when asked if they witnessed our son do this, it was a no, surely there's footage being there's multiple cameras again no), my wife asks for our sons last name if there's such a list & of course, "well there's not a real list, but a teacher told us some names" (couldn't provide a teacher's name when asked) her story changed several times, you could tell, they messed up. If a teacher called & gave you names & you don't have it written down, how the hell do you know if you're confronting the right people?! She offered to call my son & apologize (which never happened), but if you didn't do anything wrong, why would you apologize? We wanted a manager, as it seems these staff accused & embarrassed someone for no reason other than to be a jerk, which sadly by the reviews seems to be the norm here. Sunday October 15 around noon, we go in & ask for the manager, amazingly he's not in, even though we were told he would be. I ask the staff if they know my son and ask about this list of troublemakers. They have no idea who he is & there's "no list". I asked if the school provided a list of names, because if they did, and my son is supposedly on it, the school would be getting a call Monday (if a student was in trouble, would the parents not be notified instead of DQ or am I missing something?), but no, there's apparently no list. So the staff from the night before were just being rude. I leave my card & ask for the manager to call me when he's in. Within an hour of leaving, I get a call from the manager. Again I ask about a list, he says there's no list, so I ask, "how can my son be accused of being a troublemaker, when A, there's no list & B, no one seems to know what he's supposedly done?!" The manager says "oh I know your son, he's very loud talking in the store when he comes for lunch & I had to tell him to be quiet", a couple things wrong with his statement & I told him. First, he doesn't ever go there for lunch, on occasion he goes to Safeway, but 9 out of 10 times he packs a lunch, second thing DQ was only a place he went with his grandma, he never goes without her or occasionally us. I asked him to describe my son & he couldn't. I said he's hard to miss at 6'1, 200lbs, and a distinctive color hair. To which he says "no that's not who I'm thinking of, that's not him" Prime example again, accusing and having the wrong person. He said he would talk to the staff members to get their side and call me back. I told him I wanted a call back and want something done about this. He even said when the employees that were working the 14th are back on shift, he'd call us to come in to talk. Guess what? No phone call, no nothing. I guess he's hoping this will just disappear. Guess I'll reach out to corporate. I would be embarrassed if I was the franchise owner of this location with all these...
Read moreDairy Queen does not honour their "Upside down or the next one's free" advertisement. I went there for a blizzard and when they served it they did not turn it upside down. I called them on it and asked for a free blizzard coupon and they said they don't have any of those coupons right now. It's funny because this has happened multiple times at different locations and they always have the exact same response. First they say they don't have the coupons, then they offer a second blizzard for free (which is a pointless suggestion). I said if they can't honour the fine print then they should just give me a refund for the (small) blizzard I just bought, but they refused to do that saying that the fine print said it has to be the next visit. I pointed out that they already violated the fine print by not giving me a coupon at which point they offered to take my name and number and post it in the back for the next time I visit. I told them I wasn't convinced they would honour that, so the cashier made a handwritten coupon, signed it and gave it to me. I guess we'll see if they honour that next time.
What I have learned is that DQ makes these marketing claims, but has no intention on ever following through. They hope that nobody will notice and when someone does they just say they don't have the coupons. Honestly I don't think those...
