A new spot in Burnaby! Just visited the brand-new Firehouse Subs on Dawson Street and overall, it’s a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
The location is super clean, bright, and organized—you can tell it’s fresh and well-managed. The staff were friendly, energetic, and helpful, which made the experience even better. It’s always nice to walk into a place where the team takes pride in their service.
I tried two subs: 🥗 Caprese Veggie (medium) – The fresh mozzarella, tomato, and balsamic glaze combo was decent, though I was expecting more flavor complexity. 🌶️ Spicy Cajun Chicken (large) – Had a good amount of heat and the portion was filling, but nothing extraordinary in terms of quality.
The total came to around $35 for two subs, which felt a bit steep. While I understand that Firehouse Subs emphasizes premium ingredients and supports first responders (which I admire about their brand ethos), the price point still feels high compared to other sandwich chains offering similar items. The quality was average—not bad, but not standout either.
Still, having Firehouse Subs in Burnaby is exciting, and I’ll likely come back to try some of their other signature hot subs. I’d love to see some combo options or local specials down the line to make it more wallet-friendly for regulars.
💡 Tip: They’re known for steaming their meats and cheeses, which sets them apart from typical sub spots—so it’s worth giving their signature hot subs a try if you...

I placed an online order for two sandwiches for a 12:05 PM pickup. I arrived at 12:10, but my order still wasn’t ready, so I had to wait even longer. While I understand things can get busy, the experience went downhill from there.
When I got home and opened the sandwiches, I noticed one was missing the side pickle, which was supposed to be included. I had also requested extra lettuce, but there was barely any—just a light handful at best. The tomatoes were just a couple of broken slices, and the green peppers were nearly nonexistent.
While waiting in-store, I could see how they were preparing the sandwiches. The meat and cheese were placed on parchment paper and then put into steamer drawers. Because they seemed to be rushing through a backlog of orders, the ingredients were crumpled together instead of laid flat. This resulted in a clump of ham bound by melted cheese—so most of the meat ended up concentrated in just one part of the sandwich. The rest of it was uneven, making the eating experience pretty underwhelming.
In short, the flavor was decent, but the overall service and sandwich assembly left a lot to be desired. Staff could definitely benefit from more attention to detail and better training to ensure quality and...
