Update: Thanks to Sarah and the team for their response to our first review. We returned for brunch and had a wonderful experience. Special mention to our server, Ella, who was very attentive with our food, dietary intolerances, and hot water refills. We had the Angus Beef Hash and Blackened Chicken Wonton Soup. The wonton soup was great, but a tad spicy for my taste buds (in the future, I'd ask for the chili oil on the side). They have large TV screens as well, so it was nice to catch some morning hockey while dining! Looking forward to returning to this location in the future, given the exceptional service.
Came here with a group of 8 for an early dinner. We were sat at a higher table with barstool seats, which were hard to move (as they don't glide on the flooring). Being middle-aged, some in the group needed help from others to be "pushed" closer to the table. The food was good. I had the Crispy Cauliflower and Crispy Yam & Avocado Roll (which was average for the $11 price). The cauliflower had a nice breading and was flavourful, and felt like a slightly smaller portion ("social hour" portion).
We had some concerns with the lack of service. We constantly had to flag down our waitress as we wanted to place part of our order before 6 pm to take advantage of the social hour pricing. My glass of water never was refilled during the meal. For a large group, it would have been nice to get checked in on from time-to-time, as a courtesy. Because of our group size, we still had to pay the automatic 18% gratuity, but we didn't think the service warranted that amount. The food itself did come out in a timely manner and was done correctly with some diners' special requests. When asked, our server was able to take a group photo of our table.
Ample parking in the parkade below with a 3-hour limit, which I was told was a non-factor after 6 pm when I called the restaurant ahead of time. Overall, we had an average experience! While the food was decent, the service for our larger group left a bit to be...
Read moreWell we have been to the other Browns Social club on west 4th but never had the same reaction from the pizza. My wife is allergic to certain foods like tomato's, onions mushrooms, etc so al she had was a white sauce on her pizza instead of tomato sauce and i had a pepperoni, mushroom, etc.pizza it had an italian name that escapes me at present,
The pizzas looked good but were dry and we also had a bellini each and some calamari which one of the girls dropped one of the calamari in her hurry to put the plate on our table, she did say oops. Our waitress was very nice but the place is quite large and she was not always available when we needed to ask her something. Parking was right out front for $2 an hour but i found out later from our waitress that there is free parking The restaurant is very nice with a lot of glass and nice seating.
However when we got home we felt very lethargic and both crashed for several hours like around 4 hours. After about 1 hour i awoke with horrible heart burn i thought i was dying it was sooo bad that i would rank it as my 2nd worst heart burn attack ! My wife who never gets heart burn also had heart burn ! I gave her 2 tums but i eventually needed about 10 tums and a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water till it finally settled down but we were still tired.
Maybe its the bread they use for the pizzas i don't know but it never happened at the other Browns Social Club on west 4th in Vancouver.
So if we ever go back i will remember the free parking and not order the pizza , i like uncle fahtis pizza on broadway and commercial drive best pizza in town. So if you want to spend over $90.00 for a little plate of calamari,2 small bellinis and 2 dry heart burn pizzas go to this place but there's free...
Read moreI’ve always enjoyed Browns and have ordered the Blackened Chicken Caesar Salad countless times, it’s my go-to. Unfortunately, during a family dinner celebrating my daughter’s birthday, I crunched down on two small chicken bones in a piece of chicken, which is supposed to be made with boneless chicken breast, causing a sharp pain as one pierced my gum and a sensation of what felt like a crack in my tooth.
I immediately brought it to the attention of our server, Alicia, who offered to get me a new one. I declined, everyone else was halfway through their meals, and I wasn’t interested in waiting. More importantly, how could I be sure the next dish wouldn’t have the same issue?
Disappointingly, Alicia did not inform a manager, and no one came to speak with me about the situation. When the bill arrived, I noticed my meal wasn’t comped at all. I had to ask Alicia about it, and her sharp, dismissive attitude made the situation worse. She reluctantly said she would check with the manager, and only then was the meal discounted by 50%, which was fine. Still, no manager ever came to address the issue or offer an apology.
What could have been a simple error handled with professionalism instead left a bad taste in my mouth, both literally and figuratively. It was not just disappointing, it made the entire experience unpleasant, especially on what was supposed to be a special night...
