Came here and ordered Tuna and Salmon Don, Chicken Katsudon, and Chirashi Don. My family was very disappointed by the food when it arrived. The Chirashi Don and Tuna and Salmon Don were served with fish that would be fine for a small bowl but was served with two or three heaping portions of rice. We had to take more than half the rice out to eat something that wouldn't be almost only rice. The Chicken Katsudon was slathered in Teriyaki sauce for some reason. The fried egg on top was overcooked. The whole dish was very salty. We had the impression that the food was made to be "close-enough" to sushi for people that aren't familiar with good sushi. While service was nice (our waitress tried really hard to address the issues we brought up to the best of her ability), the food was just lame. Compared to sushi places like SushiU, Sushi Garden, Sushitown and even Giwa Sushi this place is not the choice to make. Personally we won't be going there again. If you're in the area and desperate for food the pizza place next door is MUCH better, with very friendly owners that serve...

Had some guests over and decided to order Gaya because we were pleased with the quality during our previous visits. Management seems to have changed and the quality of the sushi has gone down several notches.

Ordered a couple of combos and several other items. Beware of the items below.

Agedashi tofu: Do not order. It didn't look like it had any batter or was deep fried and tasted as if they had just taken it out of the fridge. It was gritty and gross. I had to throw it out.

Alaska roll: Pretty disappointed. They must have given us a roll that was pre-wrapped from the night before because there was a fairly large piece of saran wrap that was left between the fish and the sauce they drizzle on top. Makes me question if this is how most rolls are prepared...

Chicken karaage: Fairly small portion with little meat. Mostly skin.

B.C. roll: Overcooked (dry and hard) and not enough to "fill" the sushi. The salmon skin barely held the seaweed and sushi in its place and...

The servers are very friendly and the service was good. We went here based on the good ratings but it wasn't as good as expected. Our karaage was raw... The server apologized and took it back to get us a cooked batch. We could've gotten sick if we didn't notice. We should have had the price off because of that but we were charged full. The chirashi don was fantastic. Sashimi tasted great but i think the quantity of rice was a little low (no complaints because they were generous with sashimi) Tempura tasted fine but we had a feeling that the oil used to fry was stale or used. We felt sick after eating, which we've never experienced with tempura before. Sushi is mediocre. The Alaska roll tasted good but the rolls were falling apart and rice was a little dry. Overall the food tasted good but quality is questionable. I doubt we'll come back here as there are plenty of cheap places that serve better...

We ordered take out from here (Uber Eats) and it was such a disappointment. We had: 2 x yam tempura rolls, 1 salmon avocado roll, 1 California roll, and 1 Bainbridge roll. The yam rolls were advertised to have yam tempura, avocado and cucumber, but there were only minimal traces of avocado and NO cucumber whatsoever. The California roll tasted like there was not enough mayo added as it was quite dry. The yam tempura didn’t taste very fresh even though it only took 6min for the Uber eats delivery to get to our house. There was no crunch at all and it was just all mush. The bainbridge roll was as the menu described but I felt $10.50 was too expensive for what was given. We only ordered from here because our usual place Sushi U was closed, but now we won’t be coming back.

Average sushi! The flavour is off on the most basic rolls, their ginger is dry and their chicken karage meat is super fatty - the flavor was really good on it however. For a quick run its okay but not my first pick Update: Ordered a second time. Miso soup was good, spicy agedashi tofu had what looked and tasted like a little swirl of siracha on it - wouldn't recommend and i got the beef teriyaki. It was disgusting and drowned in waster....literally. absolutely had no flavor and was full of sprouts. They should add an assortment of veggies or maybe a few pieces of brocolli. Never going back here again and do not recommend others comings here.

Gaya Sushi seems to be a popular pick-up service spot. While I was there, the door was revolving, with takeout orders being picked up The restaurant is clean and had ample seating. Free parking out front with easy access to Lougheed Hwy. Prices are on par with the current economy. Everything is getting so expensive, but that's across the board in Vancouver. Service is friendly, and what I noticed was that EVERY time that front door opened, the staff greeted the person walking in. That made it feel inviting Food tasty. I took a few pics. Tea nice and warm. Yam roll good. Avocado salad nice. Chopped scallop was ok I'll be back.
