This restaurant opened up beside my workplace years ago...2013 I think? I visited nearly every day for lunch and the food was always excellent. Whenever a friend or family comes from out of town I like to bring them there. You can tell this family-run restaurant takes great pride in their work and really pour their heart into the dishes and their hospitality. I tried 7 dishes, 2 soups and 2 desserts so far. The IWOK chicken is particularly popular among my friends.
The ingredients taste fresh and are clearly purchased daily unlike frozen pre-prepped foods found in other restaurants. The sauces and spices are a delicate blend between Indian and Chinese cuisine and all dishes have a pleasant aroma from cooking on high heat.
The meat dishes have a generous portion of both meat and vegetables for a well-balanced meal. There are some excellent vegetarians options as well.
The lunch specials are definitely under-priced for the portion size and they all come with rice and your choice of soup. As a guy who eats more than average I always leave full, and often take home.
Spiciness can be easily modified so you can enjoy each dish at your comfort level.
The desserts are exceptionally tasty. I recommend the deep-fried banana and ice cream OR the flaming ice cream - a delicious sweet donut-like cinnamon ball encasing a scoop of ice cream.
The customer service is above and beyond what is expected for a restaurant. They owners really treat you like a guest in their home. The staff are attentive, humble and make their best efforts to seat and serve you quickly, which is surprising for how busy this place get during the day. Water, tea, and napkin refills magically arrive whenever needed. The wait for your dishes is very reasonable and always arrives hot. Staff are friendly but never aggressive or entitled and I am amazed at how the owners can remember so much about my preferences and personal details. They come out and chat with guests on a regular basis.
The restaurant itself is kept very clean. Accidents are quickly picked up, and I never once encountered a fly or stray hair, despite my many visits. The decor is basic - cozy and comfortable but no particular style. There are design elements representing Chinese and Indian culture. Parking options are fairly limited at the back of the building, but there are other side streets nearby with ample options. There are also take-out options. There were a few times i showed up and the restaurant was closed - until I realized they take a break between 2:30-5:00.
I'll probably regret writing this review, because this hidden gem will become over-packed :P But in all seriousness, the owners truly deserve the credit for building up a fantastic restaurant from nothing and I want them to stay for a long time. You should definitely check it out for yourself!
P.S. I 'm surprised by a few bad reviews in here - I think some people don't understand Indo-Chinese fusion is, assuming its one or the other. I suspect there are a few entitled customers have been taking advantage of the owners kindness and became bitter when they put...
Read moreThis used to be my go to restaurant way before the pandemic and that was a year and few months Ago. I love the owners presence they have great personality and sweet, they have almost become like friends, we would visit this place almost frequently back then. They have great options to choose from. The fusion of both indian and chinese, thats what intrigued me the most. today i decided to give them a try again, this is the first time in almost in 2 yrs, i wanted to also support local business due to these hard times. In todays take out menu i had the broccoli stir fry, the veg fried rice, the tangerine chicken and chicken stir fry noodle. I was excited to give the food a try again, but unfortunately the food was not up to par and this is my honest honest opinion, the food was way tooo GREASY that my lips were dripping in oil, its like the the food has been soaked in oil... I’ve never been to keen with too Much oils on my food but this was way too much compared to a few Chinese restaurants that Ive been too. Their veg fried rice did not taste like stir fry like before, it had a sticky, oily, stale taste and consistency. The smell of one of the dishes did not smell fresh. The food was also smaller than usual, food portions were off. Prices have gone up but quality have gone down. It was just different from the time i was there before. I dont understand the 5 star reviews, not here to judge because everyone has their own opinions or they know the owners so they have to show respect and give five stars. But business is all about growth, i most certainly don’t want to be fake, it wasnt good at all. I wish they could do better. I dont know if i want to bring myself...
Read moreHEALTH INSPECTION NEEDS TO GET HERE A.S.A.P! I can relate to the reviews about the grime and food poisoning.
We came in through the back (parking lot). The first thing we saw was a totally-grease and grime covered baby high-chair. The floor and walls by this entrance were horrifying.
We would have turned and fled but we were to meet someone who doesn't have a cell phone, so we could not change our plans
The restaurant was actually packed, so we thought, against our gut instincts - puns intended - maybe the food is "to die for."
The server was friendly and nice and welcoming which helped assuage our fears
We asked for very spicy. The phone has pretty much ZERO spice - is that how the food always is? Or was it prejudice because one of us is Black; the other White (both Canadian - not of Indian or Szechuan background) If so, that is a very prejudiced assumption ESPECIALLY when WE ORDERED "very spicy"
The taste, the consistency of both chicken and tofu dishes was dreadful - in a dubious flavourless "curry" sauce
Both of us experienced stomach distress an hour later
Lesson: if the first thing seen upon entering is GRIME, fled the scene of THE CRIME! And criminal is what the food at...
