Tired of all the K-town sushi joints around town? The over-sauced, big portions with mediocre quality, not well rolled sushi and crave something more back to simplistic real Japanese cuisine?

Look no further than Taku. A very unassuming place tucked into a neighbourhood strip joint in Burnaby. The staff are all Japanese and I feel like I’m back in Japan. The sushi chefs all take pride in their work and I admire their cleanliness and using disposable food gloves while prepping the dishes.

Portions are generous, fish is fresh, service is so friendly yet not overly bearing and prices are super reasonable. Love that most of the plates, cups etc.. are not plastic and are from Japan and they serve you authentic green tea. Please note, the place is small, and best for groups of 2 or 4 and not really suited for families as dining area is small. Lots of people were doing takeout.

Highly recommend and don’t forget to check out the Smart N Save next door for all your munchie snacks!! Huge selection of cheap Japanese, Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean and Malaysian goodness and some cooking condiments that...

Sushi Sushi Sushi

Taku is a hidden gem that doesn't always show up in searches for sushi around Metrotown, Highgate, and South Slope areas. Don't let that fool you - this unassuming little shop serves the best authentic takeout sushi in Burnaby!

The sushi here strikes a perfect balance between American and Japanese styles. The fish is expertly sliced and paired with an ideal portion of rice, creating a satisfying bite that's neither too large nor too small.

For those looking for lighter options or budget-friendly choices, Taku offers sandwiches and Japanese rice balls (onigiri) at lunchtime. These alternatives provide great value without compromising on taste!

Oh and the Teriyaki beef is well balanced as other people said!

Tips preset at 15% up at the...

My very first time to try this restaurant with my kid. It’s great in my opinion and my kid’s opinion. The restaurant is small but insightful. Only 4 tables but totally hosting the world of Japanese cuisine. 1 waiter is friendly and accommodating and excellent customer service. 1 main chef taking care the kitchen. 1 sous chef taking care of everything else. The food is great. I try a single Tamago sushi, a bowl of rice with beef, and tempura. My kid love the food. Very fresh and delicious. The soup base is a bit sourer but does not matter. Overall, I will come back for sure. I suggest the restaurant reducing the price of tempura to 5 or 6 dollar. It will...

Taku is open for dine in. Just 2 small tables. <3 This little restaurant is currently take out only. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. We saw many people come and ask questions and they took the time to answer and accommodate. The food is fresh and tasty. Definitely done well. I really liked my Inari sampler and the rolls were very good as well. The Oshi seems to be a big selling point. Don’t let the exterior fool you, definitely worth coming in to order something out.

Initially came to dine in, but turns out that 1-hour prior to closing they only offer takeout. Their aburi salmon oshi is quite creamy and packed. As for their inari pockets, it is delicious but smaller size compared to other inari you can find in Coquitlam or Vancouver. Wished we were able to dine in to get the full experience. So for now I will rate it with 4 stars as the food is made well and their staff are very friendly and sincere.
