It was my first time to eat at this new Amazing Brentwood Tables (food court) today. Soooooo many people were having lunch here. When I got here at about 11:30am, it was full. Most of the tables and chairs were occupied. My family and I found a table which was the furthest from the main area of the food court.
Each food stall had many people waiting to order and waiting for the food to come out. I waited at Yugo Roll & Bowl. The line was moving pretty fast but the wait time for the food was about 15 mins.
The quality of the Oshi sushi was good. It had a bit too much rice; otherwise it would be balanced in terms of the amount of rice that went with the salmon or tuna.
My sister ordered the veggie garden roll and avocado Oshi sushi. She said the veggie garden was just okay. It didn’t really wow her. Maybe it’s just a normal veggie dish that it is a bit more plain?
The price was reasonable. It is not as pricy as how much we pay at a Japanese restaurant.
The food stall got several staff working at the same time. It was quite busy that they worked non stop. One was a cashier taking order. A few made sushi and rolls. A couple at the back assisted to run the business. One helped to hand out the food.
The bad thing I experienced today was the chaotic situation at this particular food stall. Customers had to line up to order and paid at the cashier. The cashier would give us receipts and asked us to wait for the food. However, the waiting area was right at the back of the food stall. The staff who called the numbers and asked customers to pick up the food was right at the front of the food stall or next to the cashier. Nobody could hear clearly if that staff called out a number. He basically had to yell and shout loudly. The security guy did not let us (customers) wait near the food stall as it was the entrance of the food court. The security guy asked us to wait at the back of the food stall. I explained to him nobody could hear when the Yugo guy was calling a number and nobody knew when to pick up the food. He said he understood and he would communicate with the business person there.
I walked closer to where the staff called out the number and I could hear him and pick up my food! I literally told the staff there saying that this was completely disorganized as they asked customers who ordered the food to wait at the back of the food stall. He replied to me “this is the management decision. Not mine.” I said I totally understood but I was just telling him that this caused the trouble for customers who could barely hear him at the back. There were so many people around in the food court and it was noisy. It was difficult for him to call out loudly and yelled the numbers. Would he feel comfortable doing this the whole day?
I hope this chaotic situation will be improved. Take a look at Chef Hung’s Noodles who uses a tv to show the numbers, so customers know when to pick...
Read moreAfter trying out soon coffee, I felt the need to hop on over next door to the Yugo roll & bowl restaurant. The lighting and menu really stood out to me so I decided to take a glimpse at what they had to offer.
Quality - the chirashi Don had a nice amount of fish on it and the tamago & tobiko gave it a nice texture and taste as well. The only con I found was there was not enough flavour. They gave you a side of soy sauce to place over but I was expecting more flavour than this. It is a $16 bowl that will fill you up quite a bit which is great. The lacking of flavour is what would deter me from ordering it again. The aburi sushi was yummy in flavour and had a nice texture. I received the prawn aburi and salmon aburi. I also ordered their "brentwood roll" which also had a nice flavoue to it.
Service- the staff didn't seem too upbeat to be serving customers when I got there. Maybe they were tired from a long day? I mention this because the overall service experience wasn't the best and I felt it could have been handled better. Where to line up was super confusing to start off with. When we attempted to order a salmon bowl they told us they were sold out so I went for another bowl instead. We also originally ordered the Hamachi aburi but it seemed that by the time we got our food they had sold out but did not tell us until they presented the food to us. At that point they just said we made you salmon aburi instead, we will refund you the difference. Although I appreciate that they refunded me the difference, what they should have done is tell me they didn't have it as I probably would have just passed on getting another aburi roll. I felt like I was pressured to take food that they already made that I did not ask for. Communication overall could have been better. We waited about 25 mins for our food.
Cleanliness - the store itself was clean and the tables around the restaurant were also clean.
Overall I'd come back again to try the other aburi flavours as I did enjoy them but I found the bowl to be lacking in flavour (I may try one more other bowl before I decide to write it off) the brentwood roll was yummy and I would order it...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant last week. Unfortunately, our experience wasn’t great. There were three staff members working, but none of them could communicate in English, which made it very difficult to ask questions or get clear information. The menu listed several sushi rolls, including California Roll, Spicy Tuna, and Dynamic Roll. It clearly said that each roll comes with 8 pieces and included prices for each. We ordered two Dynamic Rolls, but when our food arrived, we noticed that each roll only had 5 pieces — a total of 10 pieces for both rolls, not 16 as expected. When we asked the staff about the missing pieces, they simply told us, “That’s how our Dynamic Roll is,” without offering any explanation. This was never mentioned when we placed the order, and it was very confusing and disappointing. For the price we paid, the value just wasn’t there. It’s not only about the language barrier — it’s about not providing the information at the time of ordering. Better communication or at least a clear explanation on the menu would’ve helped avoid this...
