After a hot day of hiking and roaming the countryside, the Black Bull was a haven of comfortable booths, shelter from the summer sun, and a place of honest food and cold beer. For ten years, we’d been coming there, and relaxing until the traffic faded and we could return home in Toronto. Then covid happened and everything shut down. For months. Restaurants started closing, including the Black Bull. And just before the cook bought the placer off the owners. Well, there’s another favourite dead.

I lived in the UK for ten years and when you wanted quality homemade food you went to the pub. Unfortunately in Canada most pubs are chains and the food is pre-packed. We were going through Bolton and stopped at the Black Bull. It has all the feel of an old English pub and the food was FANTASTIC!! We walked in planning just to have a beer, then decided to have potato skins for an appetizer. They were so good, we decided we would have another beer and more food! The curry chicken soup could have sufficed as a meal, very spicy and very delicious. We also ordered chicken wings and a Caesar salad.
