I used to.live in Mayland Heights in the 80's and there was no better Chinese food than Bamboo Gardens!! Moved to Airdrie and it's now 2024...we had a Family gathering last night and my husband and I decided to take a trip down memory lane and see if Bamboo Gardens was as good as it used to be. Side note our favorite Chinese restaurant in Airdrie closed a couple of years ago and we havent found a place yet that could replace them....if Bamboo Gardens was all I remembered..I would drive in again and again for a large order!! Well the building and interior seem to remain the same since the 80's, so I'm sure they could use some renovating by now...but I wasn't there to judge that, we ordered take out. Very friendly ladies...gave us a 2025 Bamboo calendar too. We brought a bag similar to a skip dishes bag, to bring our food home. We ordered several different dishes, some were very delicious, the ginger chicken amazing, the veggies and bean sprouts great, also won ton soup was awesome! The dry ribs, chicken wings, chow mein and chicken balls were so so...the problem was the rice, it wasn't the greatest to begin with and the sad thing is my Grandson unfortunately found a staple in his rice, thankfully before he swallowed it. Overall it's pretty good,, and I'm sure the staple wasn't intentional, but I probably wouldn't drive from Airdrie...
Read moreI am happy to write a positive review for Bamboo Gardens, a classic neighborhood Chinese food restaurant located just outside Calgary's downtown core at 1603 18 St NE. Although I haven't been to this restaurant for years due to a decline in quality, I recently gave it another chance and was pleasantly surprised by the food's consistency, flavor, and quality.
One thing that struck me when I walked in was how little the decor and furniture had changed since I was a child in the 90s. I might have even recognized some of the fish in the tank! However, I soon realized that the familiar surroundings only added to the charm and nostalgia of the experience.
But what matters most is the food, and Bamboo Gardens did not disappoint. Every dish was hot, fresh, and full of flavor, reminding me of why I loved this restaurant in the first place.
Overall, I was impressed with Bamboo Gardens and am happy to have rediscovered this gem. Don't let the old-school decor fool you; the food is fantastic, and I look forward to ordering from them again soon. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious Chinese...
Read moreMy family visited bamboo garden for the first time on lunar new year day. And their food was really good!
We have been curious of this place, we ordered mu-shi beef dish, black pepper sizzling beef, and pork dumplings. I have never had mu-shi dish, it came with beef and veggie stir fry with thick sauce, and we wrapped it with thin wrapper like Peking duck wrapper. We quite enjoyed it, 6 wrappers were not enough!
Sizzling beef was served real hot, it was tasty and beef was so tender. Pork dumplings were also really good, it is pot sticker style with thick dumpling wrapper.
Service was 5 stars, so friendly and felt well taken care of(but also we were the only customer at that night so not sure how busy they usually get).
The restraint is located on 2nd floor of old building. Decor was retro feeling, the whole building smelt a bit moldy from all the carpeting.
Price is decent and they also have free delivery & pick up discount, I’d love to order take...
