Bella Roma Restaurant & Pub — Restaurant in Calgary

Our family has been coming here for 14 years- the last 2 years - the quantity and quality of the food has gone down hill SIGNIFICANTLY. Last night ordered the $41.95 special (1 large 3 topping pizza, 1oven baked lasagna & 1 Caesar Salad). The pizza is half it’s original thickness, there is very little toppings and the toppings were at least 3/4”-1” away from the crust. There were 6 pieces of green pepper on our whole large pizza and very little pepperoni and next to NO mushrooms. The boxed Caesar Salad is at least 1/3 smaller than previously & the baked lasagna the same. The price has gone up SIGNIFICANTLY in the past two years-however you are paying more money for FAR LESS Quality and Quantity. Bella Roma has no value for my money spent anymore, it cannot feed my family anymore- this is SAD for us as 14 year loyal customers- however the owners have been making a fortune off of loyal customers like me and now for the past two years have treasured my family as though I am an ATM to accept less quality and quantity while paying more money. This restaurant has definitely gone downhill and we won’t be back until the owners start giving the quality and quantity of food for the price they want to charge. I stopped to pick up two pizzas and a beef dip on my way home from work for my family. While I was waiting I sat in the lounge and had a nice cold craft beer. Yes I said craft beer now at Bella Roma!! I had the pleasure of meeting the new owner (bought this 40 year old local gem in Nov 2020) John Robarts who I learned from our discussion has a little more than 27 years running some of Calgary's tastiest restaurants liked Bella Roma so much he bought the company! John and his family actually live in the neighborhood and were customers. Anyhow, I LOVE pizza and must say I eat way too much of it. We had the all meat and a double beef and onion along with the beef dip, gravy and fries. The pizza was done absolutely perfectly and the toppings were fresh and plentiful. The crust and sauce really stood out for me. Our daughter was very happy with the beef dip and was not asking "where's the beef"! lol. Fries and gravy were not just average like most places. You can tell these were more of an elevated restaurant/pub fries for sure. I wish the new owner and his family all the best and am looking forward to bringing my family in as I can see that the restaurant dining area and bathrooms have been renovated and the menu has some nice enhancements to it.

I've been visiting this establishment almost weekly every summer since 2008 and I'm telling you I can't find a better pepperoni mushroom pizza in the City of Calgary. There is also something magical about their taps because the Rickard's Red that comes out of them is at the perfect chilled temperature, the flavour is so unique, and it pairs amazingly well with the pizza. For the first 5 years I thought it had to be because I was working out on the reservoir and I was just really hungry and thirsty. Then I starting showing up outside of my workouts and it was still the best I've ever had. I'm telling you, NO, I'm challenging you to try the combo out for yourself and tell me if there is a better pep and mush anywhere in this city. After 8 years (the time of this review), I'm still looking and Bella still comes out on top. This is a gem of a place in Lakeview and a must visit if you like...
