I had no idea that this area is like a Korean town. There are a few different Korean restaurants and shops in the same area.
We came here because we love Korean cuisine and wanted to try something new and not the typical Korean Village in downtown. We found this place just by an online search and came because it was rated pretty high.
BoRi is a small mom and pop Korean restaurant that doesn’t feel like a mom and pop restaurant. The quality of food is comparable if not better than most Korean restaurants in town. The service was okay and they were pretty quiet and doesn’t come around much but that’s a very Asian thing. They just don’t want to bother you so don’t be offended if someone doesn’t come around to ask you how your first few bites were.
Back to the food, there were only two of us but we totally ordered too much food, as you can see in the pictures. We had a Kimchi pancake, marinated Beef Bulgogi soup and pork belly. The kimchi and small dishes were free and you can just go and help yourself. Rice and miso soup is also free and help yourself to more if needed. I think tea was served free of charge as well. Flavours were great and was pleasantly surprised by the quality with every dish.
Another surprise is that they serve Japanese food as well, like ramen. We didn’t order that because we thought they should just stick to one type of cuisine but hey maybe next time I’ll try that. Set lunches are bento style and looks like a great value.
We will definitely come back again to try...
Read moreUpdates: I was back to the restaurant for dinner with my parents this time since after my brother talked with Jay that he gave a very sincere apology about the first experience and ask that we gave another chance.
So we did, service was much improved compare to first time. The spicy pork bone soup is good. And seafood pancake is one of the better one in Calgary. Only food that is kind bland is the chicken karaage.
Overall, we have good experience that we will be back try different dishes.
Original review: I had awful lunch experience that I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy.
Three of us were here for lunch. We should see the red flag that no service after been served water. I had to walk up to the counter to order and the place is not even busy. But since we never been here before and place decors looks quite decent, so decide to stay and check this place. Huge mistake!
Then they serve 2 orders out 3 and last order never serve after good 20-30 mins waited. So we decided just get the hell out of here and cancel the last order. And worst part is that when I told them I want to cancel the last order, they don’t even feel sorry of the wait. They act it’s a big favour that they are ok to cancel the unserved order despite the long wait.
By the way, the food is just ok, but I guess that’s what you get for 11 dollars lunch special.
Just don’t waste your money here. Even McDonald’s has better service than...
Read moreI had been wanting to visit BoRi Korean Restaurant for a while, and finally, my wife and I got the chance. We were not disappointed. The place is small with just a handful of tables, which gives it a cozy and intimate feel. We were greeted warmly upon entering and seated right away. The atmosphere is very relaxing, enhanced by the soothing traditional music playing in the background.
My wife, a big fan of bulgogi beef, found her choice easy. I opted for the boneless short ribs. Both dishes were outstanding. My wife's beef bulgogi was delicious and came with three sides: bean sprouts, kimchi, and seaweed salad. Although she typically avoids anything containing seafood, she decided to give the kimchi and seaweed salad a try. To her surprise, she loved both, especially the seaweed salad, and even asked for extra, which our server gladly provided without an additional charge.
My short ribs were juicy and full of flavour. The portion size was generous, and each bite was a delight. Our server was attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed and that we were enjoying our meal.
Overall, BoRi Korean Restaurant provided a wonderful dining experience. The combination of cozy atmosphere, excellent food, and attentive service made for a memorable evening. We will definitely be coming back, and I highly...
