Update...my quest to find the best shawarma in this city is back on... unfortunately. ⭐
Found out our Friday night fave is under new management. Decided to try it out anyways...it's not good anymore. The chicken shawarma was mostly veggies, and at that, mostly onions and banana peppers. It was poorly wrapped, not toasted like it usually is and was just underwhelming. I'm so sorry to have to write this. See my updated photo of my wrap today...it also took a very long time for the food...if I didn't have to pre-pay, I would have left, because I was running late for my next appointment.
My quest to find the best is over!! THANK YOU DONAIR PALACE! ⭐ ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This place came as a recommendation after trying many different places within the city and surrounding areas...I couldn't find something a shawarma with the taste I knew and loved --Lebanese shawarma!
Chicken shawarma and beef donair come in three different sizes, with your choice of fresh veggies and housemade sauces.
There are other menu items such as fries and shawarma poutine, yum yum!
This is our go-to, for sure and while I've tried both the donair and the chicken shawarma, my vote goes to the chicken shawarma... But that's because I prefer chicken in most cases!
The owner Ahmad runs his shop and operates on weekdays only until 7pm... So plan to go after work someday or for lunch! He's a very nice person and upon talking with him, I got to learn that the others of my favourite shawarma place in Winnipeg (Baraka Bakery) come from the same village as his family in Lebanon. That explains a lot about the experience and the taste and QUALITY of food. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thank you,...
Read moreI am a student at the high school nearby. If there's nothing good at the school (which there isn't half the time), I've learned a simple lesson: Go to Donair Palace! Seriously, the food at all the other resturants nearby get crowded sick, and are overpriced compared to what you get generously offered at Donairs. The pizza, pop, and fries that are near the palace and in the nearby northland village and market mall more expensive, and serve less. Thats just the pricing! The Food itself is absolutely amazing. They don't miss a single time. But the donair itself: Best shawarma to ever touch my mouth. Beef chicken medium large. Falaffel. Spectacular. Then there's the general vibe and positive atmosphere of the place, due in part by the clean floors and tidy area, yet mainly from the amazing guy who now owns the place. He's super charismatic, likes to talk a lot, and is always smiling, and always making your day!
But if there's one thing to take away, IT'S THIS: One time I preordered a shawarma, and when I got there, there was a person in front of me. It was no more than 2 minutes before the owner got the person done. But the owner then offered me a free $3.50 pizza for waiting "so" long and for being so lonely talking to my friends. The owner there is absolute respect, care, and a force of good with a delicious donair by his side in this darkening world. Please. Do yourself a favor by visiting Donair Palace now. You...
Read moreI used to frequent this establishment regularly- probably once a month since 2013. The family that ran it was friendly and their donairs were perfection. It had been maybe half a year since I’d eaten there. I went in August and found a sign on their door saying they were away on vacation. I was disappointed as their website didn’t say this. That’s understandable though as it was the summer. I returned a few weeks later. When I got to the door I noticed a young girl (presumably their daughter) putting a sign on the door exterior. The sign said they were closed because they were catering an event. I asked if they could make me a donair and a man said “no”. Again, I was disappointed as there was nothing indicated on their website. Today - November 2 - I checked their website again. Their hours were listed as opening at 10. I called after 11 and there was no answer. I drove there and the doors were locked and no one appeared to be inside. The sign said they open Saturdays at 11. I called them at 3 and still no answer. I’d imagine there are challenges running a family business in Calgary, but this is ridiculous. Does anyone know if this place...
