Came to Calgary for some errands and stumbled upon this Northeastern Chinese restaurant before heading back to YEG. Ordered one veggie dish—Chilled Eggplant Salad—and one meat dish—Stir-Fried Pork Liver, plus two bowls of rice.
Here’s the breakdown:
🔸 Chilled Eggplant Salad: Refreshing and light. The sweet, sour, and savory flavors were well-balanced—something both northern and southern Chinese palates would appreciate. If you’re a white vinegar fan, this one’s a 5/5.
🔸 Stir-Fried Pork Liver: Personally felt like they might’ve skimped a bit on the cooking wine—the liver had a slight gamey taste. Still acceptable, but the flavor was a bit on the mild side. Maybe a splash more soy sauce would’ve done the trick? Taste is subjective, so I’m giving it a solid 4/5.
The lady boss was super friendly. They offer lunch specials with rice bowls, and the portion sizes are a bit above the Calgary average, though still not quite up to Northeastern China standards (we do eat big portions...
Read moreMy friend found this Chinese restaurant on Google from the amazing reviews and it happens to be somewhere I have been before. Every dish was absolutely amazing!! My Canadian friends enjoyed everything I ordered! Beef broccoli was crispy and fresh. Kung Pao Chicken was a hit, nothing you can find in a normal Chinese restaurant, perfect ratio of nuts and chicken with the right flavor. Pork shoulder was surprisingly well cooked and tender, so you can easily cut them into small pieces and the flavor was just perfect, not too salty or too sweet. Sour cabbage dish was my favorite because it tastes so authentic and that’s exactly how it would taste when you to go northeastern China. We had a very authentic experience there and as my friend said, if you see the house is full of Chinese people, you know that Chinese restaurant is definitely good, and that’s what you will see in Fresh...
Read moreNorthern food in Calgary at its finest, if you have ever had what's commonly referred to as "northern" Chinese food, then this is the place to visit. Huge menu to select from, prices are a bit high but the portions are large, definitely an acquired taste, my group and i ordered the Lamb ribs and two orders of the Sliced beef, the ribs were very meaty, the portions were nice, however I found the amount of oil used to be a bit heavy for my personal preference, the usual cumin spice mixture coated the ribs and brought a nice flavor, the Sliced beef was quite good very good flavor and heat, again q bit heavy on the oil but from what I'm told that's how northern food is. Definitely worth checking out if your looking for this style of...
