My wife and I have been driving to Gus’s from North of Beddington since early 2014. Unfortunately we will no longer be going and here’s why. When we first started going, up until approximately 6 months ago we were greeted and served by simply the greatest server in Calgary. Unfortunately I don’t know her name however she always remembered us and she singlehandedly provided the most attentive and friendly, personable, perfect service every time. She was an absolute delight to be around and have as a server. The pizza was and is still very good however the new servers (2 of them now are unable to come close to what the previous server did) clearly have no business in customer service. The difference is night and day. The difference in service is at two polar opposite ends of a service spectrum from best to worst. No I am not exaggerating. The new servers try to avoid working altogether and each hopes the other will do the work. They socialize and speak loudly about their personal lives while they should be performing their duties. They only become oddly friendly when you are about to pay your bill. It has become clear to us in the half dozen or so times we have gone since the brilliant server left that business is not what it used to be and in my opinion this is why. You can put new new tabletops and reupholster the chairs all you want but all you have to do is hire a server or two who...
Read moreMy mom loves this place and I love Italian food and pasta. In the past I’ve definitely enjoyed the food. Today was sort of a strange experience though, we had one server who was friendly and nice. But another who kept pestering us about paying the bill before we had even received our food. First she came up and asked if we wanted the bill, we thought it was weird but whatever we can pay now not a big deal. She brings it over and says “take your time” and yet not even a few minutes later she comes back and asks if were ready to pay. So we pay and again she says, take your time, theres no rush. The continuous “take your time” and “no rush” felt like she was trying to get us out of there faster. Dinner finally comes along, after we finish we wait to get a servers attention so we can box up the leftovers. Its the same waitress and she again asks us if we are ready to pay… it was just a little frustrating to have a server all over us about paying but inattentive enough that she didn’t remember that we paid already, that only other servers refilled our drinks, checked in on us or brought the food etc. Also I did not really enjoy the pizza, I’ve never had it before but the bottom was quite soggy, the flavours were okay and there were pieces of completely mushy dough. The pasta was alright I just think I would prefer one of their...
Read moreReady on time. Fast friendly service. Great prices for what you get! Use their online order app instead of Door Dash for better deals and to save everyone some service fees. Good amount of toppings. Nice fresh ingredients. Flavors are on the milder side but this is a good thing for many people. For me it was nothing some fresh parm, Tabasco or a dash of salt couldn't solve.
Only negative was that our Gus' Special pizza was literally dripping out the corner of the box and on to our coats and car. (The other pizza was fine.) Not sure if this was normal but I'd like to assume it's not.
The pizza still looked amazing and tasted pretty good. The crust was soggy in the middle, so I just took the mushy part off and ate delicious mouthfuls of topping on their own. The crust was still firm enough towards the outer edges to still be held up for eating so it wasn't a complete mess and no need for a knife & fork.
We'd order from them again if we were in the area, just maybe sticking to the ham & pineapple (or another less top heavy) pizza next time. The kids devoured their pizza along with the baked Tortellini Florence. Bonus points for super...
