UPDATE 1: It's currently 11:20pm on Friday, September 20th, 2024, and I am THRILLED to report that neither I nor my husband have heard that awful noise from the front door.
I must say, we are quite pleased with how the owner responded in a timely manner and took what we said on the chin. We are most impressed by their following through on their word to address the door.
UPDATE 2: It is now 3:01am on Saturday, September 21, 2024, and NOT ONCE did we hear that shrieking noise.
Finally, we would like to thank you for addressing the issue in well under 24 hours. As well, we like to express our gratitude for taking that comment seriously and displaying what fantastic ownership looks like. There are many who could learn from you.
Thank you so very much. Enjoy the rest of your weekend as we certainly will be, and so will our ears.
Kind regards,
A very happy couple who may have to come in and give your place another chance. But this time, we will go in together and hopefully be coming back to change the first review with a better one.
Firstly, before I get to the review, there is something my husband is requesting. PLEASE PUT SOME WD-40 ON YOUR FRONT DOOR. We live close behind your business, and the noise of that door is worse than nails on a chalkboard. It sends chills down right through you, and not in a good way. It's extremely irritating as it happens every time someone enters or exits your business.
AGAIN, PLEASE PUT WD-40 ON THOSE HINGES. Our poor ears can't take it anymore.
Now, onto the food, service, and atmosphere.
We both have only gone to this location. We went separately on different days, at different times of the day, and agreed that one time for each of us was enough.
My husband had 1 friend and 1 family member tell him that the food was AMAZING. He was told by both his friend and family member that the poutines were best they've ever had.
My husband went in on a Thursday afternoon last summer. He said the service was good. However, the food was a huge letdown. It was only mediocre. The presentation was the worst part. He said it looked like it was thrown on top with some fries sticking out of the sides.
For me, I went in after midnight. I waited 5 minutes before I could order my drink. Had it busy making fancy drinks for a packed bar, I would have understood. But that was not the case. Besides myself, there were only 2 others.
When I finished my drink, the female bartender asked me if I wanted another drink, and I said no. Had she asked me when I still had a quarter of my drink left, I probably would have gotten a second one. Instead, I asked for the bill and left.
As for the atmosphere, my husband and I we both felt the same about the atmosphere and decor. Neither of us got a warm , cozy, inviting feeling that made me want to come back. Not even for a split second. Between the walls and ceiling being so busy with the most random things, it felt like when they first opened, they asked customers to bring in things they hated, and they put them up on the walls and ceiling. We've seen dive bars that look better. We are still confused as to what theme they are going for.
We are sorry to be so brutally honest. But when we both went on different days and different times of day as well, and both agreed that the decor was so terrible it hurt the eyes, we had to be honest about it. Even if it stings.
We really hope that despite our not so flattering review, you'll still do as we requested. Spray the front door with WD-40!!!!
Regards, 2 people who can't sleep before 2 am. because...

Everytime we have been at the tavern we had nothing but great service and good vibes
Unfortunately last night the experience was different.
We planned a night to blow off some steam after a long week and chose the Nolan Hill Leopolds Tavern. Close by and easy to get home.
3 drinks in and an order of appetizers the waitress came to our table and asked us how we were getting home.
I dont mind the question when we are ready to pay and leave. That would have been welcome at that point. However half way through our dinner seems odd.
I responded that my husband will be picking us up and that we have an arrangement.
I then requested at that point another round of beers. The waitress said we needed to wait until our beer was finished before ordering another. Implying that we have been drinking to much or acting out of hand.
Nothing of the sort was at play
There was a table with a young kid beside us so instead of making a scene or causing tension I asked for the bill. Feeling irritated and at that point just wanting to leave as the table next to us stopped to watch was happening.
When the waitress came back with the bill she offered us 4 free drink cards. Saying she felt bad.
Seems counter intuitive. Anyways
Maybe the waitress was new and plus I didn't want to make a scene with families and other people enjoying the space.
However leaving the Tavern last night we felt uncomfortable and unfortunately we love the spot but won't be back for a...
Read moreWe went to Leopold’s in Sage Hill last Sunday for lunch.
This location has so much to look at! Lots of photos, records and other interesting visuals to behold.
It wasnt too busy, about half full Sunday afternoon. We sat at a high table near the window and ordered drinks. Unfortunately there was an old of control screaming baby at the table beside us, so we had to move tables. I am not a fan of experiencing this in pubs and taverns, but its far too common these days.
Now at our new table, we perused the menu, and ordered the feta dip, a “black and blue” burger (a burger of the month), the Bbq rancher poutine and mimosas and sour beers.
The feta dip was zesty and delicious, with notes of garlic and lemon. The focaccia was excellent with this dips! The black and blue burger was also great, the blue cheese hit perfect with the beef patty. The Bbq rancher poutine was a little underwhelming, the chicken portion was slim and seemed to be mostly breading. The gravy was decent, with a bbq tang to it.
Service was average but pleasant, and our server did her job but perhaps didn’t add anything to our experience.
Points of improvement were a menu with possible gravy or sauce stains on the front and back. It should have been noticed before it was given to us. We just didn’t use that one.
This visit was pleasant overall. Other than the screaming infant, the vibe was fun and relaxing. I was hoping for an amazing experience like last time, but this time it was just… good. Which is fine. 4/5 stars. Thanks Leopold’s, see...
