We've ordered biryani from this place before through doordash and loved it. (That's why 2 stars) Thought we'd try their indo-chinese today and I absolutely regret it. Ordered - Chicken hakka noodles, chicken fried rice and chicken manchurian. The chicken in the fried rice and manchurian was stale and tasted spoilt. In the noodles, the cabbage was more than the noodles, felt like I'd ordered a cabbage veggie. The other veggies as well were cut so thick. Like why do you just want to serve people anything just for the sake of it. When I got the parcel, the chicken machurian which was the most delicate dish was placed at the bottom of the bag, with the rice and noodles on top of it! So obviously when I recieved it, the manchurian was spilled over - what a genius idea! Lastly, the service, the staff really need training. Before placing the order, I called the number to enquire about which dish to order - and I got the most annoying reply - "It depends on what you like"!! Really, thank you that's very helpful. Definitely not ordering again.

We discovered this place a while ago through word of mouth, and now we are hooked to it. Fresh, amazing food, efficient service, polite and courteous staff, and very reasonably priced. Their chicken biryani is our favorite as well as chicken tandoori on skewers. They have special lunch hour every day that we tried recently. It was so delicious and so fulfilling. It includes rice, with 3 curries, hot crispy naan, salad and dessert. Today we tried the gulab jamun and ras malai for dessert and it was superb 👌. Highly recommend to try them and also masala chai to end your meal. The owners are hard working and very friendly and we should appreciate and support small business owners instead of going to other big food chains or franchises for our meals. Calgary peeps do checkout this place. You will be grateful! 🙏

About time I left a review, I’ve ordered or ate at Masala Art several times now. Definitely a hidden gem. Staff are some of the friendliest I’ve met. Food is always great, never misses the mark or fails to satisfy my craving. I’ve had the pleasure of trying a number of dishes, chicken tika masala, goat korma, beef curry, lamb biryani, shahi paneer as well as the different rices they have and naans. I have 0 complaints with any dish, the peshawari naan is top notch, the saffron rice is perfect. Also have to mention the portion sizes are very large, I usually have enough for dinner and lunch the next day. I highly recommend anyone try this place that’s been on the fence.

This was my first time placing an order over the phone with this restaurant, and unfortunately, it turned out to be a very disappointing experience.

It was a big order as we had guest coming over and this was just the closest restauranti never ordered before from. When I went to pick up my order and brought it home, I realized it was incomplete - all the starters I had ordered were missing. I called the restaurant right away, and to their credit, even though they were closing, they agreed to prepare the missing items. I had already tipped 15% on my first visit to them for pick up which was 15$.

However, when I returned to pick up what they had forgotten, I was still charged nearly the full amount the second time that they missed, with only a small $5 discount, despite this being due to their own order mistake. I found this quite unreasonable, especially after having to drive back a second time.

As for the food itself, it was unfortunately not up to standard. The fish kebabs and paneer tikka were extremely salty, to the point of being inedible. The chicken malai tikka was tough and lacked any real flavor, and the lamb kebabs were also hard and overly salty.

It’s disappointing, especially since I live so close by and had hoped to find a great local spot. Sadly, based on this experience, I won’t...

Update 2025: It's sad to see fewer and fewer people both in the restaurant and picking up food over the past several months. Given the food is excellent and the prices are reasonable, my wife and I often discussed how we never knew the restaurant existed for years, even though we live a few blocks away, because of the name. We always though it was an art store whenever we wen to Oakbay Plaza. The website prominently describes it as Indian cuisine however it isn't as clear on the restaurant. And there isn't any advertising around the block either that I know of. Anyway, something to think about as we want to keep coming back year after year!

We live just a few blocks away and used to routinely go to Hot Million in the NE, which is still our favorite Indian restaurant in Calgary. However this is now a very close second. After several meals, everything just works. The flavours and service with a smile. Portion size is good for the price. Their garlic naan is among the best in the city and the food is consistent, no ups and downs depending on what chef woke up today. Can't remember now how long since I've driven to the NE since this is so good and so close. ...

Had an absolutely amazing time here. The staff are very nice and accommodating. The food comes out quick, fresh, and hot. We had the goat korma, lamb curry, and loo gobi as our mains. All of which were spectacular and the richness of the curries were perfect!!

On a side note, they also have a high tolerance for extreme bouts of laughter. For some context, we simple humans love our food with some heat but definitely over estimated our heat tolerance... while we ordered our dishes at a medium spice level, you would have thought we just comsumed pure capsaicin that burned us from the inside out. The food was absolutely delicious for the first hour or so.... until the heat hit. While at first we attempted to play it cool and tried to mask our discomfort, we soon had an overwelling amount of emotion that could not be contained. Our body temperature began to climb, our ears began to steam, our eyes began to tear, and we began to laugh!! We were definitely humbled by the lack of heat tolerance.

Now dont let this discourage you from coming here!! I would and plan to 100% go back!! Though my newly established spice meter will be set to mild for the...
