Finally, after a long, long, very long wait Trullo trattoria is here! On a balmy autumn evening we were invited to Calgary’s newest restaurant, Trullo trattoria, in Oak Bay Plaza, in Oakridge. From the parking you can see the nice, contemporary blue building with big windows and a nice patio in the front waiting for the sunny days of next summer. Inside the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Comfortable chairs, some booths, mirrors on the walls, contemporary art, plants in white ceramic pots in the windows. I love the lights above the bar. Congratulations to Erin, the designer! And then, the food…oh, the food…I really didn’t know what to expect. Being an Italian trattoria I thought I would find a bunch of pasta dishes with lots of the robust Italian flavours of tomato sauce, Parmesan, basil, garlic and parsley. But no, the owners, the couple of chefs from Purlieu bistro along with their new executive chef, surprised us with a very creative menu of wonderful dishes. We tried a lot of them. We absolutely adored the burrata dishes. We had the burrata and pomodori, a beautiful dish with colourful oils and burrata sott’olio with artichoke and pickled eggplant…a heavenly dish! We also liked the baccala, a salted cod and potatoes spread which, in my opinion needed more cod. It was gorgeously presented! We tried some pasta dishes too. Our favourite was the maltagliati with lamb shin ragu, mushrooms and walnuts. What’s there not to like? We had few bites of pizza with very tasty, perfectly cooked crust. As a main course we had the cod with sweet, black garlic, roasted almonds, orange and carrots. We tried all the desserts and enjoyed them too but the one that really stood out was the semifreddo. Food of the gods! All in all it was a wonderful experience. I can’t wait to go back and keep on returning until I try all the dishes on the menu along with the ones chef Cris will create...
Read moreThis was our first visit to trullo. I wanted to take my husband out for fathers day. My husband and I, make it our personal goal to try new restaurants around town to always keep things fresh. We had heard great things about this restaurant and finally decided to try it. The atmosphere was a busy one but a festive one due to it being fathers day. My husband and i shared a tuna appetizer to start and it was delicious very well put together. Along side some nice wine as well. After our appetizer, my husband had the prawn fettuccine and I ended up having the veal bolognese. My husband really enjoyed the dish. In his words the best prawn fettuccine he has ever had, and we have had a few so it really impressed him. As for me the veal bolognese was so good and tasty definitely two thumbs up. For dessert we ended up having a very lovely and very tasteful tiramisu. I love having a good dessert and if I could give it a 11 out of 10 I would. Compliments to the chef that made it. Trullo in my opinion is a real hidden gem in the oakridge community. We had a wonderful experience and an amazing time. Trullo is also very economic and my husband and I left very impressed at how good the food was. Compliments to the chefs who cooked our meals and Compliments to our waiter very friendly. We will definitely be coming back and will let our friends know about this lovely place. Thank you for making my husbands day wonderful he loved his...
Read moreTrullo delivers an amazing experience, that is truly hard to forget. I literally dream about their dishes while sleeping at night, and can’t get it out of my head until I’ve satisfied the craving. Hospitable hosts, delicious dishes, beautiful presentation, wide wine list, and amazing premium cocktails. The ambiance is very welcoming and charming, I recommend to absolutely everyone!
The Salami Burrata delivers a clash of sensations with a fluffy, buttery consistency unlike any other restaurant I’ve ever been to - highly recommended. The Beef carpaccio is delicious - it’s very well balanced in flavours, presentation is prime, and a must have. The flatbreads, all of the flatbreads please. So so good. The Clam linguine - expect to appreciate the house made pasta, and perfectly cooked, buttery clams - light and fresh, something that makes me come back time and time again. My mouth is watering just from writing this review lol!
The only thing I think they could improve on is the music. It’s not too loud or terrible by any means, but something more modern and upbeat to match the atmosphere, decor and fantastic menu, I think they would really benefit from. I know I would stay even longer than I usually do to enjoy more cocktails after my meal, if they tuned it up a bit.
Overall, fantastic job, keep up the good work! I would rate it...
