Rockies Bar& Grill — Restaurant in Calgary

Decided to come down to the bar after a day of workshops & while I do like the atmosphere & how nice it is, this bar can definitely be improved.

Food for starters was ok. I ordered a seafood pasta and while I did enjoy it, I will admit the kitchen staff did have to cut some corners on the seafood to keep that $20 price tag especially around the shrimp. Not to mention the sauce itself was very runny, very lemony for my taste, and was poured on too much to a point where it could be considered soup.

I did enjoy my drink but the service was unreasonably slow. I could only imagine the bar was short staffed based on how busy the bar was when I looked around the other night but it was definitely busier during my dinner so they could have had more people in staff if they could. Not to mention that my drink was literally on bar sitting there for about 5-10 min after I ordered which, if it was busier, may have been a safety hazard for me if someone had an opportunity to spike it.

I’m currently giving them the benefit of the doubt & may try something different if I come again, but there are some serious improvements...

This is a restaurant in name only. Let me first start by saying the staff were great. Welcoming, Attentive and Quick. The food however was not quality. Either the Chef is not a Chef, or management will not let them be a Chef. For a starter we ordered the Nachos. They were just Chips with some random topings and some cheese added as an afterthought. For our mains we ordered the bison burger and lobster ravioli. The ravioli looked congealed and bagged parmesion cheese was used. My burger had a bone (at least I hope it was a bone) in it. The food was brought to the seating area by a host, but via a 'bus boy' cart. Our hostess was quick to remedy, and we ended up not paying for the food. I should have read the reviews first. We went to another restaurant 150 meters away. There is Indian, Vietnamese, pizza and BBQ...

The restaurant has a "school cafeteria" vibe so we (party of 4), decided to go to the bar for supper instead. We were promptly seated, brought drinks and ignored. All the staff left the bar unattended for 10 minutes at least. Went up to the bar when someone returned and said we were ready to order and he said he'd be right with us. We were ignored again. I went up a second time and asked what was up. The staff were clearly swamped and explained they had a large party booked into the restaurant. I asked if the kitchen was backed up too and the waiter was honest with the wait times. We paid for drinks (with a tip - not the waitstaff's fault they were understaffed) and went elsewhere.
