As my 13 year old sister would say, "This is a game changer".
I was pleasantly surprised that they offer a very nutty satay soup. The soup was well seasoned and flavorful (slightly too salty) but overall was very solid. Although the satay is not as good as Pho Hoan Pasteur, it is very close. But this is definitely outweighed by the fact that Saigon Rex is in Edgemont and much more convenient for people living in Edgemont and Hamptons. The spring rolls were also long and hard (crispy) just the way I like it. From my brief glance at their menu, it also seemed like they offered a wide selection of other dishes excluding soup. I am excited to try their other dishes in the future. But most importantly, a good pho restaurant finally opens up in Edgemont to replace the sorry excuse that was Bobby Chaos (ˈkeɪ.ɑs).
It seems like the era of $10 pho's has ended forever. A first look at the menu will show you that the average bowl of pho is around $12.50. I would not shy away from the price though. I feel like this price is very fair as it seems like they made extensive and refreshing renovations to the restaurant. Similarly, most pho restaurants have been raising prices around the city, probably due to minimum wage. The service was swift and hospitable.
Overall, I would rate the flavor of the pho at 4ish and everything else would be a 5. Although I can't say that this is the best pho restaurant I have eaten in the city, I am very excited to frequent such a convenient and delicious restaurant and hope that they will become a staple of...
Read moreI went here a couples time with my honey and experienced the service differently. Once time I ordered the deluxe soup in large size and it’s quite big. So, I couldn’t finish it. I asked for a Togo box. The lady in 50s gave me the box quickly and left with aggressive manner. I was shocked about it and I thought if the service couldn’t improve I would never come back this place. Lucky me, I experienced the best service as I expected. I remembered it’s a cold Saturday, the girl with short hair took the order for me. She is pretty and active. She got my order, then she brought the soup with a shinny smile. And this time I couldn’t finish my soup again. The girl asked me if I need a box. Then she gave me the box and asked me whether I could pack my soup. She helped me pour the soup into the container easily and quickly and then she cleared out all the bowls without forgetting ask me if I need more water. I was so impressed about the way she served me because last time I was disappointed with the manner of the lady in long black hair. I gave her 20% tips for the young girl and I hoped to see her in every my visit this restaurant because I like the soup and the service she gave me. I’ll come back more often to see the girl always happy with her sunny smile. Five stars...
Read moreAbsolutely horrid service by male server and what appeared to be a manager/owner. Watched them seat someone and not give them menus resulting in the people going to the front to get take-out menus to order from after waiting. Hilarious to watch them clear tables one dish at a time and incorrectly clear half a dozen tables. Waiter seemed more interested in handing out draw forms for prizes than taking order, handing out bills, clearing tables or dealing with customer requests. When we wanted to order after waiting 10 minutes, he told us to wait. Didn't even hand out pens to fill out draw slips, something you could do when providing the bill. Finally he was replaced with a waitress who was really good, took our order and checked in on use. Unfortunately the food was among the worst Vietnamese I've had. Satay soup was decent but not enough meat and noodles. My wife had the beef noodle soup and it was almost tasteless. Won't ever go back regardless of specials or pricing, not worth...
