we went to this place because i have been obsessed with matcha these days, and i wanted to go to as many as cafes i can find in calgary that has matcha!
my bf got the “yuzu mousse cake” that we definitely will never come back for. the flavour is so bland. we cannot taste anything on the cake except for the gel thing on the top. it tasted like an artificial strawberry, and it also felt like we were eating plastic. the texture of the cake was really dry, and had no moisture at all, which made us feel like they were getting stuck on our throat. we’ve never been to this cafe, so we thought that the cake was going to be a good portion and size, but it was way too tiny. it was atleast two bites. 1/3 of the cake, we found a piece of HAIR which was really disgusting, and disappointing. we didn’t ask for a new one because we were simply done with this cake. i don’t know what we were expecting, but i guess we had too much expectations. i recommend that people never try this. it’s overpriced for a small cake that tastes horrible.
on the other hand, i got myself the dessert parfait with the mix icecream which was so good!! we were so disappointed with the cake, but after having the let down and having the icecream, it was so good. the size was small as well. we thought it would be big because in the pictures they looked big. i have nothing else to say about mine because it was good, just an advice is the portion and the size of it!
the person who took our order was a little rude. she was not smiling at all, and when we asked about something, her attitude was telling us that she did not want to be there and she just simply wanted to take orders and serve. we were a little offended but it’s okay because the icecream was ok..
overall it was a 5/10 experience, i do not know if we will ever go back, but i will keep this place in mind if i ever want an expensive small matcha icecream. 😊
! THERE IS NO PARKING AREA ! we parked in nearby neighbourhood where we could park for free with...
Read moreI love matcha. I used to eat a lot of match ice cream and other matcha products until 10 years ago when I became not only lactose intolerant but I also had developed a general intolerance to dairy. After experimenting I discovered I also experienced an immune response to soy milk, due to additives or the processing.
Today, my friend offered to bring me a matcha from this store today. I was so excited because they had milk alternatives listed on their website.
But when she asked for milk alternatives, the only options they had were Regular Milk, Lactose free and Soy.
As I am unable to ingest any of these options due to allergies/intolerance, and many people have issues with Soy (it isn't very inclusive as an alternative), my friend suggested maybe they could expand or opt for a more universal alternative to Soy like coconut.
The staff literally laughed in her face at the suggestion, and the staff smirked at each other and basically mocked her.
Ultimately, I don't care that you don't have inclusive alternatives.
What is a problem: It is behaviour like this that makes in hard for people who have allergies and health issues to participate in society. It contributes to their isolation, stigmatization, and othering.
By mistreating our friends and family, not only are you not being open minded and losing business, but you negatively impact our relationships with people in our lives and further harm done to people with health issues. When staff at restaurants behave this way, they undermine the legitimacy of our health issues and the diets we need to maintain our health. It makes it less likely the people in our lives will want to advocate for us, or go out for dinner with us.
It took me over 10 years to get my family to provide options for me at group events due to similar attitudes and biases. I will be avoiding this location of this franchise as this behaviour is ableist and demonstrates an intolerance of differences. The management need...
Read moreIf you like tea, especially Matcha, then this is the place for you. Everything from drinks to pastries have Matcha or some other kind of tea like Houjicha in it. I hope you like the colour green as much as I do, because there is a lot of them here.
The parfaits are an interesting dessert with a variety of toppings on it like sweet red beans, earthy kinako (roasted soy flour), and my favorite, shiratama (soft and chewy glutinous rice ball). If you want a soft and gooey treat with a very intense Matcha flavour, I suggest getting the Matcha Daifuku.
They are still fairly new, so the place was very busy when I visited on Sunday afternoon, but service was fast enough given the circumstances.
The venue is small so seating is limited. Dining in might be a challenge for large groups of people, but takeout is an option. Parking sadly is an issue since most nearby establishments (except for Peters Drive-In) seem to only have a few parking spaces available for their customers. Being along 16th Avenue helps since the place is accessible by public transit.
A great place for unique and tasty tea-centric drinks and desserts without being overly sweet. Keep in mind the limited parking spots and...
