State & Main — Restaurant in Cambridge

I would like to say first that the food was great. We decided to go to State & Main on my birthday since we have never been there so why not try the place out and see what it is all about. Well....... We had a table booked for 4pm, we showed up, got seated by the hostess. 15 min later the hostess comes back and ask if we had seen our waitress yet and we just said nope, no waitress and no orders. The hostess takes our drink orders and than about 5 min later our waitress finally shows up and ask what we would like to order for drinks. The answer was simple since I replied that the hostess took the order already. So far we are 20min in and the waitress shows up and than another 8 min later the drinks come out. Now the drinks sometimes can be slow if they are busy at the bar or if the drinks are complicated. Two mixed drinks and an old fashion and a diet soda. (Not that difficult). Well we got the drinks, than I tell the waitress (our table one which I won't call her name out in this) we want some apps. Order the apps than we wait another 20min on them to show up. After they finally show we order our food, but first the apps were good minus the calamari as it was not crispy and under cooked. The mains finally comes out another 20min later. Now this is where things get more messed up with the service. We sit there looking down at the food and think, ya know....how can we enjoy this food with the proper utensils. Yup there was none as they did not provide them at the start and we had to ask for them. I asked for 4 waters and they finally get to us about 10min after the mains show up. Our waitress not once smiled or showed that she was happy to even be there or serve us, but we did notice that she was always smiling and laughing when she was with the other staff. Now I am not asking for much, but if you are working in the food service and you have to be in the front of the house serving people, than smile and laugh at the ones you are required to serve.

The service was terrible, we went at happy hour and not one drink was being pushed or promoted to try and get those sells in. Happy Hour consist of making people feel comfortable and happy and enjoying the place and push those drinks out.

The atmosphere was meh, could of been way better and way more inviting since we did go at happy hour and it wasn't that great.

Ya know, I use the open table app to book everything and we do post on there about things about special occasions or events. It was for a birthday this time and they did see it on the booking, but they didn't seem to bother with that. Anyways, we are at the end of the time there and we have to ask two separate waitresses to find ours and get the bill. We did have the dessert menu in front of us but we decided not to order that since it prolly would of been another 20min to get that. We paid and left the tip, but the food was great, and the service was horrible, and that is why the size of the tip was what it was due to service failure. I do hope that everyone that does go has a better time or better service. Oh and time stamp of this was Sept 4th 3:50pm - 5:30pm table #40 State & Main...

A bad night for a (I hope) good restaurant. We took our daughter there for her 17th birthday. We arrived at our booking time and had our food ordered in around 20 minutes. It took them another 45 minutes to get our apps out and a cool hour and a half for our food to arrive. By the time our food came out the place had been more than half empty for around 30 minutes. And when the food came out it was completely underwhelming. My steak salad was so chewy I couldn't chew the steak pieces at all. It went back as is. The steak was to be medium but seemed totally raw on the inside. The chips and dip... well the chips were completely stale and not crisp at all. The wings were average, a bit on the smaller side. The lettuce wraps were average not nearly as good as the ones at Moxys. The burrito bowl had basmati rice that was hard and crunchy and seemed stale or that had been microwaved. The Pacific bowl was cold in the middle. The manager came a few times to tell us that the food would be out soon but it kept getting later and later. After waiting an hour and a half for dinner .. we thought we would wolf the food down but almost 75% of it went back cause it wasn't good. The manager apologized for our night and give us 40% off our ticket. Our server kept apologizing for the delay and seemed embarrassed at how long it was taking.

The fact that the place was empty on a Friday night at 8 PM Ish, and we still had to wait longer for dinner was surprising. All wasn't well in the kitchen I think that night.

We could only eat the fries, chips, and wings. And we got 40% off our ticket. Though most of the food went back as is. So we came home and finished our dinner here with what was in the fridge.

Not the kind of birthday i wanted my 17 year old daughter to have. Would I go back there ? I've had better dinners there before and hope this was a one-off. But this was a real 1-star night for...

I am tired of giving this place my money when the continueous lack of care in preparing food for take out. We usually order once a month maybe twice because we love it here. Over the last 3 years with COVID we have ordered several times. It is just the little things that add up and what used to be our favorite place now just rips off their customers. Food is ALWAYS missing items on every order. wings- carrots soaked in honey garlic sauce, rotten lettuce in the salad and not even dressing...the BLT chicken always misses something whether it is be avo or bacon or this time it was tomato. In September my friend and I Picked up an order. The shrimp, chicken burger and the BLT chicken sand and dessert. The chicken burger was BLACK and BLT chicken burnt as well. We called and they said come pick up a new meal. we Drove all the (30 min)way back to get a new meal and waited . We Got the new meal and the BLT was just a chicken nothing else and missing items in both meals. We called and politely explained what happened Called and was given attitude by the supervisor- I wanted some my money back or a credit or something ( repeat customers and this was a 100$ meal) and she said she would talk to the manager and call us soon. We never heard back. The fact that we drove there and home then back there and home- the supervisor said " oh its not that far" - What a thing to say?? I say no horseradish on the dip but they still put it on ( HUsband could not eat because of allergies).... dip always missing beef broth, They just do not care. That is all. Last night was a salad- lettuce was rotten and no dressing. BLT chicken- no tomato or lettuce...wings with veg- Veg tossed in the wing sauce as well. ?? So anyway, We tried State and Main.
