Perks Donuts — Restaurant in Campbell River

Krispy Kreme donuts without leaving the Island. Being a fan of donuts I wanted to stop here for lunch. Donuts wise was not disappointed. The hot food was good, but very pricey.

Donuts I ordered the classic honey dip $1.40 and raspberry fill $1.60 to try. There was a good selection to choose from, but I could only handle two. Honey dip was comparable to Krispy Kreme version. Soft, chewy and airy texture with a good taste of sweet glaze. It wasn't quite Krispy Kreme delicious, but quite close. The raspberry fill had the same soft and chewy texture. The raspberry fill was good, but not the best I tried.

Hot food I wanted to try the burger, but backed out after looking at the price! The combo doesn't even come with a drink, just a side of fries. I opt for the cheaper Chilli Cheese Hot Dog combo (fries, no drink) for $9ish dollars. The hot dog was well made and tasted great. The fries was crispy and tasty, which I am very picky when it comes to fries.

The only reason why I held back giving it 5 stars was the price of the hot food. Donuts, soup and senior special was price fine. However the hot food was a couple dollars more than I was willing to fork out for a cafe. Lots of senior was here and the senior special was a good deal for them. The ladies working the counter and bring out food are also seniors. Very polite and friendly with me. I would come back again for the donuts and soup, but maybe not for...

When I see comments like the one before mine "Robert", i find so inconsiderate because they have no idea what has recently happened to the owner and baker of Perks earlier this week. First of all this is a small business and as most small business they are run by usually one person, the owner who operates all aspects of that business. And if staff told you they were out of food and closing early that day is because the food here is so good and they do at times sell out early, most days they do sell out early. Perks is ALWAYS busy early in the day because the food is so fresh, you might want to get there earlier next time so you get a chance to enjoy it rather than give them a low bad review rating. I wish the owner and baker get well wishes in the hospital at this time and hopefully a speedy recovery so that you can get back to baking us those delicious donuts that you are famous for!!!! So I have never had an off putting experience here as their food and baked goods are amazing, but this morning I was parked at the drive through window and a young lady was working the front, I waited patiently, after she used the till with handling cash she then grabbed the bagels without washing her hands.... not only is that a food safe NO! We are in a pandemic... wash your hands people! Eww.. so off putting and very disappointing... I ended up not getting anything...
