Went in to do a take out order. Large older male wasn't accommodating and told me right away it's an hour+ wait for the food, however, I could dine-in. I explained we are traveling with a pet so unfortunately dining in wasn't an option for us.
Younger male stepped in and asked what we wanted. I told him we already looked at the menu ahead of time and all we wanted was the pork burrito and chimichanga plus an order of the churros. He asked me what type of chimichanga we wanted and I asked him to make a recommendation for me to which he indicated chicken was the best choice. He went and checked with the kitchen and told me they could do it and wouldn't be an issue or a long wait. I went outside and within 15 minutes he came outside and hand delivered the food to us. This really made our day and is a testament to how well his level of service is and why I would return to this restaurant. He treated us really well and we really appreciate that.
Food was amazing btw. We brought it back to our travel trailer and enjoyed a very delicious meal full of authentic Mexican flavours. I can see why the food alone is rated so high here.
I highly recommend this restaurant if not for the food, at least for the service and friendliness of the 9/10 of the staff.

Zicatela Mexican Restaurant is hands down one of the best dining experiences in Castlegar. The food is absolutely incredible — every dish is bursting with fresh, authentic flavours that taste like they came straight from Mexico. You can tell the ingredients are high quality and the recipes are made with genuine care and passion.
The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and full of good energy, and the staff are always friendly and attentive. Their house-designed drinks are also fantastic — my favourite is the Mango Habanero Slush. If you can’t decide what to try first, go with that one! It’s not as hot as it sounds — actually quite sweet, smooth, and incredibly refreshing.
It’s rare to find a place that nails both the food and the experience so well. Zicatela definitely deserves its five stars — a must-visit for anyone...
Read moreZicatela's is my go to restaurant in town. My partner and I decided to grab takeout tonight for the first time as we usually dine-in. We each ordered a burrito that comes with the side of rice and beans. Everything tasted great other than the rice in the burrito and the side of rice. We both received what tasted like old and stale rice (very crispy and crunchy) which we both decided not to eat. We were disappointed especially after coming to this restaurant for years. Food has always been good along with great service just this one time had a bad experience with the rice inside the burrito and the...
