Edit: We made a lunch reservation the opening day of the new restaurant, “the Grateful Table”, after being invited back by the owner.
The new decor is very nice and the staff very friendly. We ordered a gyro, kalamari, and saganaki. The food was excellent, I was a big fan of the kalamari and my fiancé was over the moon about his gyro with pineapple.
Overall good experience, glad we gave it a second chance.
Disappointing. I have been wanting to dine at this restaurant for a long time now and tonight my boyfriend surprised me with a dinner here.
The main front counter area was quite noisy and so my boyfriend could not hear what the server was saying through the plexiglass. He told her this and she was visibly annoyed and turned to me to ask if I was able to hear her.
We decided on gyros and appetizers. My boyfriend asked if he could take the tomatoes off of his and instead add pineapple. The lady taking our order told us that was impossible? He asked if we could just get pineapple on the side then and apparently that was also not in the realm of possibility. At one point the server told us that this “was not a subway”, despite having to order in a cafeteria style fashion. At $20 a gyro you would hope to be able to get what you enjoy, even if it means paying a substitution fee?
I ordered a cider or cooler and there were none available. We watched every other table around us get waters refilled when we did not even get a water to begin with.
I can understand times are difficult due to Covid, and the owner did come and apologize after my boyfriend submitted a complaint, however, I don’t think I would be compelled to come back to dine in again. We felt unwelcome and disappointed with service and...
Read moreVery nice place and even better staff. It always nice to see a staff member who believes in their brand as much as they do here, especially at a restaurant because you know your food is made with love.
I ordered the Lamb Apo Ola, with a side of Greek salad, and a locally sourced, from Tailout Brewing, can of IPA. First of all, a chilled glass instead of a room temperature glass would have been nice, but not a deal breaker. The only reason they don't get a 5th star is because it's a little pricey for what you get, what isn't these days, and the tomatoes were mushy so the salad was not that great. Again, I don't really fault the restaurant for this, after all, I myself have brought home mushy tomatoes from the grocery store. The gyro, however, absolutely beautiful! The lamb was cooked to perfection, packed with flavor, and even had a little tiny bit of kick to it. The mushy tomatoes couldn't even ruin this masterpiece! I just wish that they had Greek roasted potatoes on a regular basis as it's only on special days, that's usually my go to side dish at any Greek restaurant.
I highly recommend The Grateful Table, just make sure to bring a little extra cash with you, trust me, it's worth it! Cost before tip was $32.75 tax in. I would have taken a better picture but I was thrown off by the extremely fast and...
Read moreA heartfelt thank you to Desiree and the Grateful Table team
I can’t say enough good things about my experiences at Grateful Table. What keeps me coming back—beyond the delicious food—is the incredibly warm, welcoming service, especially from Desiree. She has such a genuine kindness about her, and both times I’ve visited, she’s gone out of her way to make me (and my dog!) feel completely at home.
The pet-friendly patio is a rare gem in Castlegar, and their hospitality extends to four-legged friends, too. Both visits, they brought out fresh water for my pup and greeted us with such warmth and enthusiasm. Desiree in particular is such a bright light—sweet, attentive, and just so thoughtful. You can tell she truly loves what she does.
And I have to mention the Kootenay Gyro—it is absolutely delicious. The chicken is incredibly flavourful and moist, wrapped in a soft pita with toppings and a tasty sauce. It’s the kind of meal you think about long after it’s gone.
If you’re looking for a spot with heart, great food, and a patio where your dog is just as welcome as you are, Grateful...
