Our family of 3 had a dinner on Friday Dec 30 at Jolly Miller. We ordered a steak dinner with a soft drink and a turkey dinner ($18) to share. The steak dinner was perfect but the turkey dinner was awful. The appetizer of coconut prawns was okay. The entree of the turkey, mashed potatoes, carrots, parsley and the gravy were all cold. We showed the waitress that even a knife could not cut a piece of turkey as it was so dry and tough. The waitress apologized and gave us a new cut of turkey with brussel sprouts, carrots and mashed potatoes. Again, the turkey was stale, the brussel sprouts were very tough to chew and the whole plate was barely warm. We asked for the manager, explained to her the problems especially the turkey being stale and tasting like it was the turkey cooked on Christmas Day. The manager claimed that it wasn't fresh but it wasn't the turkey cooked on Christmas day. She was going to talk to the kitchen. She then left without further explanation.
After a few minutes, the waitress came back with the bill, charging only for the steak dinner. We called the waitress back and asked her to charge the appetizer of the coconut prawns and the soft drink as they had no problem at all. We didn't want to take advantage and insisted to pay the portions of the food that was okay. The waitress said, "Don't worry, it is just a soft drink. We want everyone to have a Happy New Year" We finally gave a very good tip to the waitress.
Jolly Miller manager did a very good job though she might have communicated to us to her manner of resolution. It would have been nice for the manager to come to our table and explain her intention to charge only for the...
Read moreWalked in with my two young daughters. Staff walked past us as we stood at the door until a customer at the bar called over amd told us that you just seat yourself. We went and sat down and waited nearly 10 minutes for a waitress to stop at our table. She didn't greet us warming, but immediately asked my kids for I.D. I thought she was kidding, as they were obviously kids. I laughed and told her that they were just here to order dessert. She told us that the pub is drinking age only. What?! Is that a thing? It's not a night club, it's a pub/sports bar. Nothing on the entrance that stated that and the rudeness of the staff was something I've rarely experienced. Could have been handled with a smile and apology "oh sorry, this is an adults only bar, sorry for the misunderstanding" would have been much better.
EDIT: Was telling my story to a cop friend of mine who referred me to LCRB bulletin 23-10, posten November 2023 that allows for underage kids to dine with parents in a "Liquor Primary" establishment. Look... every establishment has the right to refuse service for whatever reason they want, it's how the staff handled it that is the reason for the low stars. They could have handled the situation so much better amd not blamed someone else for a decision...
Read moreWent here for the first time because we saw their $5 appies between 3-6 pm sign. Had a mango bellini and it was so yummy but not on special. I recommend it though. Had a $4 pint of beer. We also chose the artichoke dip and chips for 1 of our $5 appies. Also had the potatoe skins. The artichoke dip was good but there isn't a lot there so I hope that's a reduced size portion because at full price of $15 it is absolutely not worth it. Their potatoe skins were pretty good but the outside pieces didn't have any bacon and hardly any cheese. They were tasty though. Gave this a 4 stars because everything tasted good. The service wasn't the greatest. We would have had more drinks had they asked us but they didn't come around until after we were done eating and almost ready to go. The place was very busy but they seemed to have enough staff so not sure why we didn't get the greatest service. It wasn't awful just wasn't great. They didn't bring napkins or serving plates as most places do when people are sharing. Other tables had them so figured it was normal to have them there too. We just didn't get great service. I will go again to see if service is better and maybe have a full meal there next time...
