With the new Railway Cafe opening up yeaterday (August 30th 2021) I wanted to wait a day before going as I knew this was going to be a hot spot! Cochrane's newest cafe is definitely a good little spot! I would give it 4 1/2 stars if I could! Service for take out food was alright, they misplaced our order so they had to make it again but that is fine, hiccups like that are bound to happen the first couple weeks while the staff figure out their groove. The coffee is great! You can taste the quality of the beans and the love they put into their brew! The food is pretty good too, had the fries, toasted western bannock sandwich and the chilled basil pesto chicken wrap. Fries were excellent, had a nice crisp to them and were seasoned well. The toasted western bannock sandwich was on the drier side but that comes with the territory of having bannock but the flavour of the bannock was great! The western part of the sandwich was spot on too! You could taste the maple ham and the fresh green onions as well as the cheese! The chilled basil pesto chicken wrap was good though it needed a sauce. Even just a bit of mayo to help offset the chill of the chicken and the lettuce. The tomatoes were good, nice and fresh, cheese was also good. The chicken itself was great. You could taste the basil pesto! Prices for the food and coffee was excellent and the service was great as well! Will definitely be going there for coffee...
Read moreSep 2020-Had the chance to return. Made sure to order local fare (pickerel) and it was very good, with sides and the entire thing well cooked and seasoned. Beer on tap today was a local craft draft. Service was still a little slow but not being able to see the whole restaurant perhaps they were busy elsewhere. Great job by staff on keeping patrons safe (clean, contact tracing, masks policy) and comfortable (takeout available) during the pandemic.
Sep 2019-Decent but unremarkable food, sub-par service. At least a portion of both our meals tasted like store bought frozen and reheated, the draft beer we were told was Rickards Red and it most certainly was not (signs in the bar as we left implied it was a Timmins craft brew), and at the end of our meal our server flat out ignored us. Cleared the plates and never came back. Didn’t offer dessert or more drinks or the bill, we finally had to go up to the bar to pay. The fries look nothing like the menu either, I ordered because the photos look seasoned, these were plain as can be. Still, I’d probably give it another...
Read moreLovely spot with cosy atmosphere, friendly service, and well priced for great tasting food. Very refreshing alternative to mass-produced chain/fast food joints on the highway. The expansive windows give it a welcome brightness and feeling of roominess. The chicken pot pie Soup du Jour was so tasty with real veggies and chicken. Made by someone who cares about good food and served with a smile. Where else can you get a tasty chicken pesto club sandwich? Lovely place overall. I will be...
