Selby’s Bunker Coffee & Gifts — Restaurant in Cole Harbour

First timer here bec my group and I wanted to support local businesses:

My friend called them ahead few days ahead to book/reserve a table for 6-8 people. Staff who spoke to her on the phone said there’s no need to reserve. Today, there were 7 of us in the shop who couldn’t sit together bec of their unreasonable rule, who therefore weren’t able to chat properly as some were sitting with a round table, others were standing with tall chairs by the window. My friend even came to this shop at 2:30 just to secure the only big table but alas, the 2 other customers have been sitting there even before 2:30 and still there until closing time.

The food and drinks are good although pricey. I bought a breakfast bagel and blueberry shake, all for almost $20. Cute gift shop. The swings were a nice touch too.

But bec they didn’t accommodate our request to reserve seats, we will not be back here any time soon. We were disappointed. We were inconvenienced.

Also, the staff already started cleaning even if there were still a few customers dining in. I find it impolite. I also saw the other staff throw my sandwich haphazardly on the counter once it was available. That’s my food, should’ve handled with care. Now I wonder which of the items on the menu are being thrown carelessly as well. Hmm.

Response per paragraph: Understood - no accommodation for any reservation requests. Respectfully - not any time soon. I understand the standard of cleanliness you put in place. I just hope it’s not during the time when guests are still eating. Imagine flying debris into guests’...

First off the only reason I did a review of your coffee shop is because Google popped up on my screen and asked for a review, otherwise there won't have been any dialog at all. I did not seek you out. I have been to your cafe twice, placed my order, paid my bill and left a healthy tip, sat down drank my coffee and left. We won't talk about the cookie. (I tip very well as I have experience as staff in the restaurant industry when I would help out a relative, in the past, when they were short staffed.) I feel sorry that your staff, or anyone for that matter has to deal with aggressive behavior from a customer but I want to be very clear I, personally, came and went from your establishment very quietly. I'm sure you have cameras in your shop to verify that. You know exactly who these culprits are that behave badly and I expect you don't allow them on your premises, which is right and proper. Addendum to my original review - I support small business. I spoke directly to the owner of this business about his reply wherein he asked if I was the person who smeared "poop" in the washroom. I CERTAINLY did no such thing and while he referred to his comment as "a little humor " I find it offensive. He didn't care for my review because it lowered his overall rating. A different kind of Coffee Shop My wife and I booked into an AirB&B which is part of Selby’s Bunker. The building contains the B&B, a gift shop and the coffee shop. Extremely convenient place to grab a coffee when you rent this room. I will breakdown the 3 businesses in this review. AirB&B: The room is a smaller space but nice. Everything is fairly fresh and clean. The bed is a loft style opening up the area underneath for closet and desk. The 'smart' TV is situated at the foot of the loft bed. There is a couch, a small fridge and a space heater if you need to warm it up a little more. Bathroom is spacious. Shower is nice. Coffee Shop: Free parking at the back. Very good (and strong) coffee. Friendly service. Fresh ground beans, piping hot and lots of choices. They have delicious baked goods. Prices are fair. You'll find some of the items from the gift shop in here as well. WiFi and a swing. Yup, an indoor swing. Gift Shop: Many crafty and different types of gifts, knickknacks, jams, and other cools items.
