Let us describe the whole experience.
Hygiene. The store is absolutely filthy. It looks like they are "cleaning" with water and dirty rags. Maybe sell a franchise to someone who knows about Windex, All purpose cleaner, something that leaves a scent of cleanliness. Not a dirty floor table even the fridge where the meat is kept looks dirty. The counter looks dirty too.
Service. When you are in the food industry you acquire skills throughout your years. Its not for everyone. There used to be a great staff who knew what they were doing. Since the franchise was sold, instead of keeping staff & maybe getting some more, the owner fired all the staff who actually know how to give good service & make a good sandwich. Instead she replaced the staff with teenage family members only with zero competance. Thats just being cheap. "Why would I work per hour when I can just get a bank loan buy a dagwoods and fire all the staff hire no one & Ill make more money".
More cheapness: Along with the lack of hygiene & competent staff they find any way to be as cheap as possible. The meat they are so cheap with. Maybe dont serve the client the end dry piece. You throw that out its the cost of business. Not to them. As well you used to say "lettuce" and theyd throw fresh lettuce all over the sandwich. Now they put a little on the sandwich while the owner whispers in a foreign language to the employee. I can just imagine she said "dont put a lot or dont waste" or something like that. Cheap. Trying to save 2? cents on a sandwich. I have to say "more please" with every item. Same thing for green peppers or dagwoods sauce. It doesnt matter what it is they will try and be cheap as possible. And maybe dont whisper in a foreign language to the person making a clients sandwich. Its rude & unprofessional whatever was said.
Bread. Instead of baking the breads fully, putting them in the front bin, using the ones that are ordered and throwing out stale ones, theyve figured out a way to scam that also. "why dont we under-bake the bread so that itll last longer and wont ever throw them out. we will keep the breads on the bread rack also so the client wont see our scam." No...now ur product is inferior and tastes worse...
I get to the cash, pay $18 for a trio, and am not satisfied.
The "trying to scam the customer by cutting corners on EVERY single level" is an absolute joke. Maybe it works where shes used to but not here.
And to dagwoods itself;
Your franchises are successful through regular customers. How can you treat them this way by selling frenchises to unqualified scamming people who will do everythung they can to "get away" with being cheap.
If a business model doesnt work you close the doors temporarily until it can work. You dont let your franchise name Dagwoods get ruined...that you worked hard to build up its name for 25+ years. Making the price more and more and more while the product and customer experiance gets worse and worse.
This place needs to be sold to someone who knows about sandwiches. Its literally unappetizing just walking in to that place and I will never be going there again until there is change. It's enough already.
Lastly to the owner. Maybe keep ALL the reviews that were posted on google. Clearly you have deleted all ACTUAL reviews and left only ones from people from your home country. That is obvious to all people that you told them "leave me a good review" and deleted all real ones. Nice try with yet another scam & deception. It literally goes into every aspect of the business even reviews. You will be shut down out of business either fron Dagwoods head office, or by simply no clients coming back. Unqualifications can be taught & corrected. Scamming & cheapness come from a deeper unfixable place. Good luck on your next...
Read moreSuch an incredibly disappointing experience at this Dagwoods location, I cannot even believe this would even be considered as part of the franchise. Having previously worked myself at Dagwoods many years ago I could say this is beyond unacceptable, The quality of the ingredients were shockingly bad—tomatoes had green stems in them (normally you remove them and don’t serve those to the customers), the bread was neither fresh nor seemed to be the standard franchise approved bread, the salami and mortadella being sliced down to the complete end (at which point it’s dry and not at all fresh), the employee was shaving it down to oblivion. The employees were extremely stingy with the quantities… like I’ve never experienced before at any other location it’s almost insulting.
The state of the restaurant is horrible, dirty, and should be closed for a deep clean before accepting clients. The slicer had random ends of dried up meats and looked like it had not been cleaned for a few days/perhaps weeks (standard practice was daily cleaning). Counter was filthy, I do not appear to be the only one from the reviews, I expected a decent sandwich, but what I got was a sad excuse for a sub. Definitely not worth...
Read moreWell this was a fantastic surprise! While in the West Island, we intended to stop at Toasties for lunch then noticed Dagwoods right beside our location.
It had been a long time since I tried Dagwoods in general and never thought much of it.
This specific visit though surpassed all my expectations, not only with the food but with the friendly staff there today.
We had the spicy Italian sub and the beef one. Really fresh and tasty and plenty enough to satisfy our taste buds, at an affordable price which is something a lot of similar restaurants cannot provide.
Never thought I’d make a review like this for Dagwoods, but thanks to this place and staff for largely exceeding my...
