Situated in a small strip mall which initially doesn’t give a diner the right “Ambiance” to the wonderful meal that will be enjoyed inside. It’s a BYOB establishment and we opted for a light white since we were not going to have beef or pasta’s in tomato sauces. We arrived 15 minutes early which was a good thing we did as the lot was full as we’re many of the streets around the mall. After two (2) drive arounds we returned to the mall and waited about 10 minutes for other diners to come out so we could obtain parking spot. We walked into the restaurant 5 minutes before our reserved time and were promptly seated. One of the waiters stood by while we sat and immediately poured us water; provided us with wine glasses and proceeded to open our wine bottle. Very Good Service. As it was out 1st time dining here we asked the waiter to give us some time to review the menu. He told us to simply put up a hand when we wanted to order and he or one of his colleagues would come by to take our order. So by this we knew they all worked together to ensure diners were served and serviced well and promptly. We opted to order from the A La Carte side of the menu as we wanted to have some dishes that were not in the Special they offer. Hot and Sour Soups were fine but could have been a bit hotter in temperature. Dumplings in Peanut Butter Sauce were Hot (temperature) and tasty but just a bit “Al Dente” to one of our friend’s taste. For the Mains we ordered. General Tao’s which was really hot (temperature) and excellently prepared. The Shrimp with Black Pepper was excellent and very fresh. The Eggplant Dish was OUTSTANDING. The fourth dish we ordered was a Noodle Dish with Chicken and Vegetables that was also served hot (temperature) and was very tasty. Two (2) orders of steamed rice were sufficient for the four (4) of us. We poured our own wine as needed but the waiters were always around to refill our water glasses. We were all very impressed by the Food & Service and will...
Read moreMy wife and I have dined at Emeraude de Bangkok many times over the years. Our most recent experience a couple of days ago will be our last. We ordered our usual dinner for two. Her Tom Yum soup was lacking its usual chunks of fish and/or a shrimp or two. My hot and sour soup was tepid. The Hunan dumplings were cold inside, but to be fair the crispy calamari were delicious. The spicy vegetables were hot, tasty, and garlicky except for the beans, which were cold. I don’t know how they managed that. The General Tao chicken and the sesame beef were both tepid and lacking sauces.
The service, if such it may be described, was atrocious. The sour-faced and mute waiter practically threw the plates down. I had to call out loudly above the noise to get a waitress with a water jug to notice us and refill our glasses. At no time was there an inquiry as to how the food was. I did not leave a tip.
As I backed out of my parking spot, the now very vocal waiter chased us down yelling, “You forgot to leave a tip!” When he reached my window I told him there was a reason for that – the food was cold and the service wasn’t deserving of the name. He raised his fist and shouted, “I don’t ever want to see you again!” I assured him that would not...
Read moreI tried this place for the first time on a recommendation from a friend. I just got chicken Tom Kha soup and peanut butter dumplings for take-out. My order was ready quickly even though it was the lunchtime rush and they were packed. Both items were delicious, but especially the Tom Kha. I first had Tom Kha in Toronto and I thought it was so good, but then when I tried finding it in Montreal, they have all paled in comparison, all except Bangkok Emeraude. It was delectable. Normally I hate baby corn, but it was cut in thin slices, and added a nice crunch and the flavor just melded into the others because the spicing was perfect. The human dumplings were also exceptional. Each Asian restaurant does theirs a little differently, and you never know if it will be great, so-so or horrible. These were really good, made with chicken, great texture and flavor, but not the best ever. I'd definitely still order them again because they were probably in my top 3 favorites. Both the soup and dumplings were generous portions and the dumplings were completely covered in sauce I and topped with both sesame seeds and green onions. All all, I'm impressed so far and I can't wait to try the main...
