Burger Baron – 111 Avenue West End I’d seen this spot countless times driving by, but what finally nudged me was a documentary I caught—The Lebanese Burger Mafia. It dives into the fascinating history of Burger Baron, following filmmaker and Burger Baron heir Omar Mouallem as he traces the chain’s origins through rural Alberta, revealing a rogue fast-food empire full of cultural and immigrant stories.

Partially why I had to give this place a proper try. That and the driving by so often and . . . someone once gave me one of their mushroom burgers. The burger was big, tasty, and greasy in a very good way. Last night (being a Tuesday) I needed something fast for a roommate—and something also for a puppy—the stars aligned and I knew where I was goingI. Walked up to the door and it was locked, with service happening only through the drive-through—maybe short-staffed, maybe just owner preference. Judging by the drive through lineup though, it was clearly going to be worth the wait.

While I was in the drive through line, a couple of others tugged at the door, they peered in the window far too long and acutely they did the math, they quickly joined the drive through queue. The line moved surprisingly quickly for a non-traditional chain establishment.

They had a deal—two mushroom burgers for about twelve bucks (not exactly two-for-one, but close enough). I passed on it this time (having had it before) and went with a traditional double cheese burger, plus an extra patty for the puppy.

Once home, I diced up that patty for the pup and took a bite of my roommate’s cheeseburger… and yup, still greasy, still dirty—in all the right ways. And I know my burgers. Puppy...

I can't believe the HORRIBLE GUEST EXPERIENCE I had with the owner "wayda." I'm not even sure if I got his name right. I am absolutely speechless at how AWFUL the guest experience was here, especially coming from the owner - it's beyond belief. This definitely deserves -5 stars, not just 1 star.

I went through the drive-thru and the guy took my order, little did I know that he was the owner. I ordered a mushroom burger with cheese and he kept asking me what type of cheese I wanted, giving me the options of cheddar or swiss. I specifically chose Swiss because I dislike cheddar. Yet, before finalizing my order at the window, he asked me once again about the cheese - SWISS. When I got home, hungry and ready to eat the burger, I was shocked to find cheddar instead of Swiss. I immediately called the restaurant to explain the situation, and he identified himself as the one who took my order - "I'm the owner."

He told me I could come back and he would give me the Swiss cheese add-on for free, essentially $1 off each burger. He even asked me how he could make it right. I can't believe a BUSINESS OWNER would have such poor customer service skills and knowledge when it comes to handling complaints.

He could have offered to replace the burger, apologize, correct the mistake, and thank me for the feedback right from the start. Unfortunately, that's not what happened. I feel like this owner needs training and should enroll in a guest experience class or workshop. It's as if I'm begging for the food that I paid for and didn't even get to eat because they made it wrong. Unbelievable guest experience with the owner. Truly...

Lunch. Arrived at 12:03. My order #102-serving #93 when my simple order: [[2 reg. Donairs & 1 Super Donair]]. I then waited an 23 minutes (not including 8 minutes prior to ordering) to get my takeout. Never once was informed on the status of or the expected wait or offered any information. They had one person working both drive-through window & the customers inside the building. Almost a ½hr ticket time for fast food is nothing less than horrible & spitting in the face to your customers Taking their money leading them to believe that they're going to be there for no more than 7-12 minutes. Minimal cost to hire an assistant who knows how the make a few donairs & take orders or Manager that can manage the entire outfit. The 4 orders placed inside after mine were gone before i saw mine appear. Yes... #103, 104, 05, & SIX. I never complain about anything. I have posted on ®Google. ☹︎Ridiculousness☹︎ Give priority to the drive through cause THE COMPANY SLOGAN HERE IS "WE ONLY CARE ABOUT YOU FILLING OUR POCKETS PLS. (the h**l with you). Eat-in at your own Inconvenience. As a foot customers you are left without any idea of when they will be takin care of. WT☹️⁉️ No conditioning '21c; only to be manually turned on after it was 😓sticky, humid & stuffy in the cramped dining area. Dine-in customers waiting as if seated in couch while drive-in took the monopoly of first class priority. NOT ACCEPTABLE DURING A LUNCH BREAK or any other time. THE FOOD WAS GOOD. Need better...

On today's visit, I had the Mushroom Burger. I just wanted to try it out to see what the hype was about. It was ok, but there isn't much to it. On my last visit, I had Burger Baron's Canadian Burger. The photo does not do this burger justice, as it tastes better than what you see. The only thing that I would have done differently on this visit is to get the double:) I am really glad that this Burger Baron is still in business, as most others in Edmonton have closed down overs the years. I hope that you will be open for many more years to come. I also snapped a photo of their gumball machine where if you get the black gumball, you get a free Burgess Burger:) Thank you Burger Baron staff for the excellent food, service, and for providing a pleasant atmosphere for your customers.

Didn't know they had donairs here, not bad but not mind blasting. Tasty enough to finish it all and would probably order it over a burger here. Would I come back solely for the donair? Probably not as there are many quality donair shops around that are better bang for your buck. My donair meat here was slightly on the dry side and finely shredded. My preference would be longer strips of meat but that's not a biggie. The portions were generous and tasted decent.
