I was looking forward to having butter chicken and dipping the naan bread in it. I telephoned the Curry Corner, placed my order and when I got home, I was disappointed to see that I was given 2 lunch specials with a side of naan bread. This isn’t what I ordered and if I wanted to dip my naan bread in something, there was no sauce - just dry chicken - in TV-tray type of containers. Far from what I ordered. I telephoned them and told them how disappointed I was and went there a second time. I have a feeling that they were just trying to pawn off their leftover chicken from the lunch special with hopes the customer wouldn’t return the food but I did because it was not what I ordered. When I arrived, they said they just finished preparing my food and I decided I didn’t trust them and said I wanted a refund instead. The refund was put through their debit card machine and then the man said to me: “Make sure you keep your slip to make sure the refund went through.” I said I have never heard of such a thing, and I asked him to explain it and he told me not to be bossy. I said I am not being “bossy” I would like you to explain why a refund may not go through and asked him: "What does that mean?" And he would not give an explanation, he just kept repeating that he was nice and I was bossy when I was just now concerned about being reimbursed . I will avoid this place...
Read moreBy far the worst Indian food I've tried in Edmonton ! Ordered the butter chicken, garlic naan and fish pakora. The pakora ( batter fried fish) tasted of rancid oil. This came with a chutney which I would describe as mediocre at best. The butter chicken - jeez. First off, this is NOT butter chicken. Traditionally, the chicken is cooked in a tandoor ( clay over , over charcoal) and then finished in a tomato based gravy. These guys definitely did not use the tandoor( cause it didn't have the distinct smoky flav from the coal). They used chicken breast ! An absolute no-no when you talk about authenticity. Usually it's thigh and leg , bone in. The breast was over cooked and chewy. And the gravy reminded me of tomato soup. And finally, the garlic naan. Seriously guys , there is a limit to laziness and cost cutting. Garlic naan is basically naan, butter , fresh garlic and slapped on the inside of a clay oven. This one was chewy , felt like I was eating sponge. And the garlic was a thin paste , spread on the surface. Cost cutting at its best ! I wish I could undo the eating. Me and my family members feel sick just thinking about it. Spare yourself, this is not easy indian , this is no where near Indian and I would seriously recommend changing your chef, this guy shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a...
Read moreMy usual go-to Indian place was closed so I decided to try this place out and ordered through Skip the Dishes. Overall, I was extremely disappointed.
The butter chicken was not even mediocre. The chicken itself was dry and overcooked and chewy, not tender and flaky as it should be; the gravy was reasonably okay -- although it bore a bit too much resemblance to Campbell's tomato soup. In any case I couldn't stomach the chicken so I threw it out and used the remaining sauce as dip for the naan. So-so.
The naan bread was decent -- only problem was that rather than being lathered in butter and real garlic, it seemed to have merely been sprinkled in garlic powder. Thumbs down!
The only positive was the Dal Tadka. The spices were well balanced and it tasted fresh. I give the Dal a 4/5. The naan gets a 3/5. The butter chicken gets a 1/5.
All in all a disappointment. So many other similarly priced options out there with superior quality. Can't see myself...
