Really the only place left to go for dumplings in Edmonton. There used to be 2 more but they closed down unfortunately. The wor tip was filled with delicious soup like a soup dumpling( I’m so happy and loved this so much because I don’t eat pork anymore so I don’t get to enjoy soup dumplings). I was so excited that the soup actually bursts out when you bite directly into it! So juicy! But beware, it’s very hot 😅. Eat it slowly and carefully like you would a soup dumpling. The only thing is, the skin was a bit thicker than normal. I wish it was a bit thinner. But because no one else has soup in their wor tip like they do and it’s made of beef, I’m happy to eat this all day everyday!
Got the veggie dumplings as well. The filling is quite nice with the veggies and mushrooms. Nice and moist but there’s not much flavour. Needs more seasoning. Or you can just ask for vinegar and chili oil and it was much better.
The chive and egg fried pancake filling and crispy outside were quite flavourful. But it’s just that the oil they fried it in was either a little old or wasn’t hot enough because it was pretty dense in oil and had a little of the old oil taste. The last time I came, the oil was much better. So it was lighter and didn’t taste the oil.
Also got the curry beef noodles. The soup is very nice and flavourful. I got the bowl with the clear noodles and it was good because the noodles gave a good contrast in textures! But I might be biased because I love these bean thread noodles! Has a chewy feel, love that. The beef comes with more fat than usual but it’s supposed to as it flavours the beef more because it’s cut thinner. Many people like this, but for me I just took off the fat.
They also have a pan fried beef bun but unfortunately they don’t serve it on the weekdays. So sad because they’re absolutely delicious and so juicy as well!! So don’t go on weekdays if you’re wanting these.
Overall, it’s a good place to satisfy your dumpling cravings! I was limited because I don’t eat pork, but I’m sure their other dumplings are...
Read moreOriginal review: Very generous portions, wow. The most delicious fried green beans and crispy ginger beef I've ever had in Edmonton. My littles could not get enough and the 4 year old hates green vegetables. Good cold as well. Not a fan of xlb dumplings in general, the Shanghai noodles and rice cake noodles were good but slightly too greasy for me. I tried the Shanghai crispy rice roll with pork floss - my kid wouldn't eat it then loved it after I compared the floss to cotton candy. Can't wait to return!
Update: we have returned a few times and I'm disappointed to say it has been really hit and miss. I got take out on a Friday, early evening. The chef must have been having a bad day because every single dish was just awful. The noodles were soggy. The ginger beef was soggy.. Green beans were soggy. All I could taste was grease and salt. The fried tofu had a weird sour taste but it's deep fried so I ate it, didn't get sick. No more take out...
Read moreI quite like this restaurant - they do a great job with their soup dumplings, with the skin being a little thicker than other places in Edmonton, so I've never had an issue with the soup escaping before it gets into my bowl.
Lots of noodles in the sweet and sour soup!! One of my favorites. I prefer a more sour soup however. This one can be a hit or miss, it tends to taste different each time I go.
This was my first time trying the rice cake dish. Their rice cakes had just the right amount of flavor, and it was well balanced throughout the dish. Perfect and super yummy.
Their food is always quite authentic, being not too sweet or salty and lighter in flavor. Highly recommend if you're looking for authentic...
