This is one of those reviews that foodies want to write but at the same time, we hesitate because we're going against the other amazing reviews. I'm also sure the owner will provide feedback as they have on other negative reviews. I'm hoping they read this as constructive feedback instead and maybe make an adjustment.
First, if I had tried their sandwiches, I'm sure my review would be different and all 5 stars. But I only picked up some desserts and can comment on the service and our experience with that only.
I stopped by the cafe around 11:15am on a Friday morning to see what cheesecake teacups they had that day. They didn't have any in the display case, so the gentleman at the front had to go to the back a couple of times to find out what they're were going to have. I ordered 2 of the teacup cheesecakes (Banoffee and a mint Oreo), an apple tart and a strawberry tart.
I want to state that we've had the teacup cheesecakes a few years ago and they were already pricey at $15 each. But it was a treat and you're paying for the art work and a tasty treat.
There are also no signs in the dessert cases or anywhere that have the prices on them. There is a menu available, but it only has the lunch items on it (sandwiches, soups, etc). So you're kind of guessing how much things cost. But, if they did have their dessert prices out in the open, I don't think they'd sell much.
I went to pay for my order of 4 items, and the gentleman informed me that the teacups were now $26 each. I was stunned. At that point I was ready to pay and excited to have them for the weekend, so I bit it, and just paid for them. The 4 desserts came to $80 and change. The tarts were approximately $15 each.
When we had the teacups later that evening for our dessert, they were good. You could tell they used quality ingredients, and they were very filling. It was more of a cheesecake mousse type of dessert. Every part of it was edible.
While we enjoyed the desserts, they weren't magnificent especially for the price we paid. Would we go again? Probably not. There are other amazing bakeries that offer much more for considerably less. It's one of those things you want to try one time and you won't go back, which is unfortunate. They have a very unique dessert that could have people coming back multiple times, but at that price point, people will go elsewhere.
If you're considering coming to here to pick up these unique desserts, save your cash and go to another...
Read moreI woke up this morning jonesing for a simple soup and sandwich from a quaint ma’n’pop shop. My search led me to Swiss 2 Go which is outside of my typical stops but the shared pictures and positive reviews really sold it. You’re doing yourself a disservice if you don’t try this one. My husband and I arrived shortly after they opened and were politely asked by the pleasant gentleman at the counter if we were okay to wait a few extra minutes for our sandwiches because the freshly baked bread was just finishing up in the oven. If that doesn’t get you excited, I don’t know what will. I had the Thanksgiving sandwich - a delightful turkey-based number with a mountain of brie (they are beautifully heavy handed with the ingredients). My husband had the Swiss Hiker which was recommended and is now a new favourite. Typically when I hear “pretzel bun” I think tough and chewy, but these buns were soft, warm, salty perfection. The mocha was one of the best I’ve ever had - not too sweet - and the mushroom soup was also deliciously warming. The decor is so quaint and comforting that I was inspired to call my mother for a long chat when I got home. There are certainly cheaper places to get a sandwich, but then you’re giving up quality and, in this case, quantity. I don’t know what kind of monster you’d have to be to finish an entire “large” sandwich in one go (we had “regulars”) but kudos to you. If you’re anything like me, you could definitely share or take half home to enjoy later. This cafe is definitely worth trying and telling your...
Read moreThe food was good, but regrettably I will never visit this cafe again after how rudely we were treated by the manager, Rita. I accidentally dropped half of my $20 sandwich on the floor moving to a table closer to the window. The employee 5 feet away said nothing and watched me clean it up in silence. My boyfriend approached the owner to politely ask if they would be willing to replace the half I dropped. Her response was that it wasn't their fault and that it was unfair and rude of him to ask her for a new one. He said he thought it was worth asking since we had paid so much for the sandwich and after expressing how offended she was, she begrudgingly replaced the fallen sandwich. When she brought it out to our table in the middle of the restaurant, my boyfriend introduced himself and tried to shake her hand, explained that it was an accident and we weren't trying to antagonize her, we enjoyed her food, and wanted to support her business in the future. Her response was to reject his handshake and announce to the restaurant that she didn't need "people like us" to give her business. It was incredibly embarrassing. I fully accept that the accident was my fault but every restaurant I've worked in or visited has always been willing to replace a dropped dish. And even if she wasn't willing, I feel like the situation could have been handled in a much more civil manner. The cheesecakes look beautiful but we didn't...
