Mary Brown's Chicken & Taters — Restaurant in Essa

Very mediocre.

Big Mary: I tried the Big Mary and have to say it was rather bland. It was comparable to a big crunch in size and texture, however, it had no flavor compared to a big crunch. At first I thought it needed more mayo and lettuce. I then found all the mayo in one glob on the other half of the sandwich which was too much mayo on one side.

Taters: I don't know why they make a big deal about their taters. There was nothing special at all about them. Completely void of any flavor other than just fried potato. The portion size of the taters was generous, however, I had no desire to eat them all as they just didn't taste like much. I think I would have just preferred regular old fries.

Pricing: The pricing was just ok. It came out just over $10.00 for the sandwich, taters and a can of pop. I feel it could have been a little cheaper but if the food was better, I would have felt like I was getting better value.

Service: The wait for the food was a little slightly on the long side. From walking in the door to walking out with my take out took 15 mins. Like I mentioned, a little long.

Appearance: The store itself in appearance, cleanliness and staff was acceptable.

What they got right: The food was served hot and the quality of the chicken seemed good (but flavorless). The people serving the food were pleasant behind the till.

We're from Angus and discovered Mary brown's chicken. We got hooked! It's really good. At first we were going during the day and everything was fine. But then we started going in the evenings.... The curvy girl with colored hair is sooooo rude that we stopped going in the evenings. Customer service is key for our small town. She keeps on rolling her eyes after every car/customer. And once we asked her if we could have 2 pieces of spicy chicken and non spicy, she literally rolled her eyes in front of us. I mean we found it childish but that was enough to turn us off from going in the evenings. I told the story to my neighbor and before I even finished, she was like "oh I bet it was the full figured girl with the colored hair". We love stopping by this delicious place for a meal. The taters are our favorite, and the chicken 🐔 delectable. The staff who served us were very knowledgeable and willing to do what it takes to make a satisfied customer enjoy their food. Kudos to owner and staff at this establishment. A 10, but only allowed to pick 5 stars. The staff works hard to please the customers, and Holly our server was a delight in serving our needs.
