Greekery Bakeshop — Restaurant in Essa

This place is the best! The owners are incredibly kind and have created the best little coffee shop in Angus. They serve absolutely the best cup of coffee! The first time I got a coffee here, I took a sip and realized that every coffee I’d had before was just sad. That first sip made me hum with exquisite flavor—I didn’t know coffee could be this good. White Americano has become my favorite. Now, all other coffee shops disappoint me and aren’t worth my time.

And let’s talk about their delightful pastries! They always have gluten-free options for me when I choose to indulge. The carrot cake and chocolate brownies are so delicious. Their other pastries, which I often get for friends and family, are always a hit—I constantly hear, “OMG, where did you get this?” If you want to impress someone, the honey cake is an excellent choice. But honestly, there are so many other options, you can’t go wrong.

Now, let me confess—yes, I cheated on my gluten-free diet with one incredible bite of their soft biscotti. But let me tell you, it was absolutely worth it. Every other place only offers hard biscotti, but here, they’ve created a soft biscotti that’s a miracle. That one bite showed me exactly what everyone was humming and hawing about. It’s tender, flavorful, and like nothing else I’ve had. Totally worth...

I will start off by writing that the one hour and twenty minutes drive to this place was worth it. From the minute you walk in, Deanna and her partner greet you with a friendly welcome - there's definately something special about shop owners taking pride in their business.

During our brief visit to the shop, customers came in and you can tell, they are regulars who come in for their usual orders.

We ordered a couple of items to try and none disappointed, however, I can only speak to my vegan treats.

First, I ate the vegan chocolate cake. It comes in a single cup for a convenient bite. It was decadent. It was satisfying. It was a perfect balance of not too sweet, and moist but fluffy. And wow, it's gluten free. Normally gf and vegan bakes are dry and crumbly, but not this cup of cake!

Then I ate the vegan carrot cake which was also gluten free but you can't tell. I'm so happy that I don't have to wait for Easter to treat myself to a slice of yum.

Next up was the Greek frappe. At first I was hesitant, but they explained the drink and customized it to my preference. My partner refused to share with me and we each ended up ordering our own. No regrets there.

Anytime I walk into the Greekery I feel so welcomed. Deanna and Costa are so friendly and genuinely a lovely couple.They really add a community feel to Angus. No matter how long it’s been since my last visit, they always remember me my last order or make an effort to remember when I change it up like when I had ordered a decaf “Canadiano” in the afternoon, and then throughout the week in the morning, they’d thoughtfully confirmed if I still wanted that or non decaf a couple days later on the morning knowing I might need the caffeine boost! (Which I totally did Lol) The first time I tried their vegan carrot cake, I was hooked it’s the best the vegan icing tastes just like cream cheese icing! And their Melomakarona cookies? There’s something comforting about them… they melt in your mouth with each bite. You can truly sense how much love they pour into providing the best for the community.
