I went for lunch with a friend. She ordered poutine and I ordered a Cobb salad and the focaccia garlic bread. I’m not sure the cost of her poutine (maybe $16) but it looked nothing like the delicious picture a customer posted online. A small plate of fries (enough to cover the base of the plate; nothing generous) with completely melted cheese (were they curds at one time?) and what looked like turkey gravy. I’m not sure how to describe it but it looked flat, unappealing and cheap, if that makes any sense. Like something you might get at a food fair on a paper plate. Surprising for a higher end restaurant like Surekha’s. My Cobb salad was good but again, I expected more for a ~$23 salad. Lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber (all fresh and tasty), with a quartered egg, burned bacon bits and minuscule shredded cheddar cheese that seemed like it was the last amount of cheese left from the bottom of the shredded cheese bag. The dressing was good, a bit spicy. It was not a large salad but with the focaccia bread it was still filling. The focaccia garlic toast was good. Nothing exceptional. Our server was lovely. It took awhile for her to take our orders once we were seated but that’s because she was making the specialty coffees and teas for other tables. My complaint is really just with the food. The poutine was not what was expected. My friend said it was fine but I could tell she was disappointed. For a Cobb salad I expect a bigger portion and I probably should have really paid attention to the ingredients listed on the menu because I would expect a bit of protein like ham, chicken or shredded turkey. Was not expecting what I got for 23 bucks. I don’t normally post a lot of reviews and I realize this is a small business, so I don’t like to post something negative but I would say for the prices being charged, and the supposed quality of restaurant, I was expecting more. So my review is more for the restaurant itself to do better but not to deter the public from...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I went here for Valentine’s Day and we were both disappointed by the experience.
The atmosphere was nice, but that is primarily due to the location (which is along the river).
We had the Meza Platter for our appetizer. The hummus was quite bland but the other two dips and the pita bread was good.
For our entrees I got the $50 special, a 10 oz ribeye steak (cooked medium rare) served with creamy potato and seasonal vegetables. The steak was very thin and small in size. It was overcooked (medium well) and was quite chewy. The only redeeming factor of the dish was the potatoes. I complained to the waitress. She told me that “ribeye steaks are normally more fatty” and that “every cut is different”. It felt like she was making excuses and essentially telling me that I just don’t know what a good steak is.
My girlfriend ordered the Linguini Pescatore for 32$. The dish came out piping hot with steam coming off the pasta. A tell tale sign that the dish was microwaved. The sauce was bland and lacked flavour. The dish was supposed to be accompanied by scallops, muscles, and shrimp but the scallops were no where to be found. The majority of the muscle shells were empty. My girlfriend barely touched her meal because of how bland it was. We complained to the waitress and she took it back to kitchen. She came back to tell us that the scallops were there but they were “lost in the sauce”.
There were no apologies for the food and her condescending tone made us feel bad for saying anything at all. We got the impression that no one cared. When she brought the bill, which was a staggering 170$, She said that “she is the front of the house and can’t do anything about it” but “got 10% taken off the steak price”. I believe the entire entrée should have been comped.
Restaurants should have standards and take responsibility for their mistakes. It was embarrassing how seemingly little the staff cared about the quality of food they were serving. We will...
Read moreWe were there to celebrate a birthday. Booked ahead of time and reserved 3 seats. Waitress was super friendly, helpful and attentive. We ordered fish and chips, macaroni with toppings and wild turkey. The fish and chips fish tasted horribly off. Like it was defrosted and refrozen and freezer burn or the fish was not kept in cool enough atmosphere prior to cooking. I couldn't even swallow the fish it tasted so bad. We mentioned to our waitress who had taken the meal off of the bill but seemed sure she would have to pay for the fish and chips. Although the fish was obviously off I felt terrible for the waitress as it was out of her control. We asked to speak to the manager. The manager agreed to talk with us. When she spoke to us all she was concerned about was that the waitress took the meal off our bill. No I'm sorry that the fish was bad or explanation as to why the fish tasted bad. Or that they were looking into why it tasted off. Or that they would take it off the menu to ensure no future cutsomer would get sick by bad fish. Disappointed in the managers to place pressure for waitresses there to pay for rotten fish the kitchen was responsible for. Only reason for 1 star for service was that the waitress did her diligence to quality service. Not happy with the waitress having to pay for it or the manager response. 1 star for the waitress giving us a lantern as it was so dark I had trouble reading the menu. If I had to rate the waitress individually I'd rate 4 star as she was attentive but obviously stressed what would happen if we didn't like the meal/service. We tipped 5% as 5% was owed to waitress and 0% for kitchen and 0% for...
