Tai Sun Restaurant — Restaurant in Gander

A MUST TRY!! We have been craving Chinese Food since we moved here from the mainland. We tried all the others restaurants in town and 1 in Clarenville and all fell short, the flavour was just not there. This was the last restaurant in Gander and it did not disappoint! Ordered combination plate no 9. The egg roll was perfectly crispy and the flavour was delicious. The chicken balls were also done to perfection as well as the sweet and sour sauce. I know these are standard menu items at Chinese food restaurants, but honestly non were as delicious as this, not even close! The chicken fried rice was so delicious finally a fried rice that has the slight smoky flavour from the wok just like on the mainland. The beef and broccoli was divine the beef was tender and wasn’t drowning in the cornstarch slurry other restaurants mix in, the vegetables not too crisp or soggy. To those who wrote that the food here is delicious, awesome, spot on etc... you need to get out and travel more. I'm sorry I listened to the reviews. The food I ordered here for take-out was beyond terrible, even for 'Canadian Chinese' food standards. Fried rice was stale, the chicken balls were just plain nasty and to top it off, I never ordered chicken. I had ordered the sweet/sour pork. The only edible part of my dinner was the WT soup. The older waitress (I think she worked there but who knows) had just started her shift in the afternoon and instead of actually doing something, she stood there and stared at me like I was from another planet. Stopped in for a very late lunch/ early dinner and was really pleasantly surprised. Like almost every small town in Canada. The restaurant looks like it's been around for 50 years and hasn't been updated. The restaurant was very clean. The service was prompt and friendly, and the food was surprisingly very tasty.
