Howah Chinese Food — Restaurant in Gatineau

This is my first time at this restaurant on 8-30-2017.It was recommended by a close friend who eat at that restaurant quite often.I did find this restaurant friendly and very clean.The service is a five stars also the food.The plate do not look to big but the portion of food is more what expected for us to eat.I do recommend this place and you will not be sorry to have visited the Ho Wah, on montcalm in Gatineau.I do not beleive any other chineese restaurant can match them in regard of the food in this region.I am retired from the food industry with Marriott Corp. in Washiongton DC.I was gen.manager in the cafeteria Div. On may 27,2019 around 4.45pm my wife and me wanted to order food to bring home,It was the most horrible welcome we got from the waitress name ( She ).we spoke to the owner about the waitress attitude who was sitting appro,five feet from the where we where and seen to not be to much interested to serve or giving explanation on the menu.This will be our last time to encourage that business to survive in that part of the city.Since 2017 this restaurant is getting worse also the food quality is not the same anymore.Just watch out before you go to HO Wah on Montcalm street in Gatineau .We do not recommend this...

I work very close to this location and would eat here almost daily. I just ordered some crispy beef, which I've done at least 30 times prior. This time, the beef was mushy and blood red, as opposed to the crispy bliss I'm used to.

I called the store to find out if I could walk back and swap it for another. The staff (who are extremely friendly people) transferred me to "the boss". He wouldn't believe me that there was something wrong and just kept repeating that it's impossible. I offered to bring it back so he could take a look at it, but this did not interest him, and again told me how it was impossible. He told me that next time I came back, he could maybe give me a 15% discount.

I told him to never mind, I'd just throw it out.

I wouldn't actively tell people to avoid this place as the food is almost always good, but I won't be able to...

I am a former employee and I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone! I caught the owner red-handed stealing my tips and pocketing the other server's tips as well. I witnessed the owner drop an entire tray of chicken balls on the filthy kitchen floor before he cooked and served them to his customers. A few days later, the same thing happened with a tray of egg rolls that was being prepared for an office Christmas party. Ho Wah's owner has been fined on numerous occasions for insalubrity, including the most recent fine for $2000 on the 1st...
