One thing you can always count on at Le Petit is a lively, packed atmosphere. It’s a must-visit for first-year students and, compared to the Ottawa nightlife scene overall, it’s a solid option. The club has two floors, with a balcony area upstairs, and it’s often the place people go when the club they originally planned to visit turns out to be dead.
Compared to cities with more renowned nightlife, the main thing Le Petit lacks is variety in music selection — if you go too often, you’ll start to notice how repetitive the playlists are. However, it’s decent for meeting people or finding someone to dance with, more so than at some other Ottawa clubs. If you dislike really crowded clubs and want a chill night out it’s not the spot.
A few important notes: • Payment: Bring cash for entry (usually $10 per person), though they also accept e-transfers. • Language: The crowd is somewhat bilingual, but English is more common. • Crowding: If you’re looking for a packed, bustling vibe where you can blend into the crowd (but risk shoving), this is the place. On the nights where it’s too tight to walk anywhere you have to squeeze through people and the pushing can be really bad sometimes and super frustrating. If being jam packed isn’t your thing or isn’t something you’re willing to risk this isn’t your place. • Safety: As a woman, it’s strongly advised not to come alone. Due to how crowded it gets, unwanted touching (groping/harassment) can happen. It’s much safer and more enjoyable with a solid group of friends. • Drinking: On busy nights, keep drinking moderate — you’ll need good balance to move safely through the crowd. • Underage crowd: Since they accept photo IDs for a higher cover price, you’re more likely to run into minors of both genders. Be mindful of this. • Security: The bouncers are strict and sometimes aggressive. Given the overcrowding, it’s somewhat understandable, but it’s best to stay clear of them to avoid issues — especially if you’re a guy. • Fast Pass: A fast pass option is usually available and reasonably priced if you want to skip the line.
If you come prepared — especially with a good group of friends — Le Petit can definitely be a fun night out. Just know...
Read moreI came here with a group of 10 people or so celebrating my girlfriends birthday. Keep in mind I was fully sober as I was one of 3 DDs with our group. When we went we didn't realize it was a cash only location and 5 of us did not have cash. This was fine because I ended up having a 100$ bill on me so i could pay the entry fee for everyone (I know this is rude but we had no other options). when I handed it to the guy he took an extra 5 dollars out of the hundred and put it in the tip jar without asking me, when my friend spoke up he got grabbed by the bouncer and told to go back to the end of the line ( which was wrapped around the whole building ). I decide to move on so i don't get kicked out too. later that night it was super packed (not their fault of course) but we genuinely couldn't move. we ended up somehow getting one of the booths and started having a good time finally. about 10-15 mins later there are 3 security guards with flashlights yelling at us to get out, we started moving but it was slow as there were so many people there. they then grab members of our group and start throwing them into the crowd of people. One member of our group was pushed so hard she fell over into the crowd. Apparently people can reserve a booth for about 50$, but we didn't know what was happening and they didn't even try to explain. later a member of our group stated passing out ( they were DD and sober so they weren't just drunk) I assume its probably heat stroke so I shove my way to the bar and ask for a water, IT'S 5 DOLLARS! I pay the 5 dollars for a small cup of water and it gets mostly spilled on the way back to the person who had heatstroke. Me and a couple other group members decided to head upstairs to hopefully get away from the crowd. It ends up being even worse up there so i try to head downstairs and a security guard shoves me into more people he laughs and shakes his head no. he was letting MORE PEOPLE UP THERE. When I say it was full I mean there was actually not enough room to stand anywhere (think subway in Japan). after about 5 minutes of waiting we were finally able to head downstairs. We end up just leaving because it was too...
Read moreJune 2022 update Here for food as they have very nicely renovated hip space. So I am only commenting on their food experience. ( and some on the ambiance)
Was here also to check out their chansonnier but did not have a chance because the group decided to go sit on second floor terrace where there are palm trees and lookout to the street. ( they seem to offer Friday Chansonier experience posted on their face book). Chansonnier was performing in ground floor , indoor, so we missed it.
We ordered burger, taco, fries and seafood.
Burger and sweet potato fries were good. However, lacking knowledgeable server and ingredients seem to be an issue. I ordered mussels and after everyone else got their food, I was told they had no mussels. I was suggested to have the fried calamari plat. So I did.
Brown over cooked calamari!!! Server told me it comes with salade on the side; indeed, a few tiny leaves on the side. Charged me $20+ taxes for this…… I believe it can be improved because the place seems to be really well furnished and intended for entertainment.
A few words on the installation: they have 2 floors. Ground floor also has a small terrace area along the street. Band performing stage and large space.
Second floor has a covered outdoor terrace with nice trees and views. It also have a private function room as well as a DJ dance floor with garage door and all the lights.
Overall nicely renovated space for dancing and hanging out but I would not say all plats are good. Stick to fries and burger would be...
