Review title: Frozen Highliner salmon served up raw as « fresh » salmon in a sushi roll
I would strongly recommend against eating here. The Gatineau location is moving according to signs inside the restaurant so I won’t comment on the existing building. While our server was enthusiastic and friendly, the quality of the food was extremely poor. So poor that I’m not sure how they are able to operate a sushi restaurant and meet a health code.... The presentation of the food was lovely however upon tasting, it’s all for show. We ordered the Exotique and Tokyo maki, an order of tuna nigiri and a fresh salmon maki. The shrimp in one roll that we got were the tiny mini shrimp typically sold in a can. The tempura bits were soggy and looked like breadcrumbs. The tuna nigiri, while I hope it wasn’t spoiled, was definitely not fresh. We were initially given smoked salmon maki instead of fresh. The server was apologetic and brought us the alleged fresh version, allowing my friend to eat the smoked version for free. The alleged fresh version was quite possibly the worst salmon maki that I have ever tried. It came out and was a strange color from what I’ve typically been served (I lived in BC and ate sushi several times a week for close to 10 years so I’m no stranger to sushi). When asked what kind of salmon it was because it appeared to be off, the server came back and replied « Highliner ». So We were served frozen salmon that is intended for consumers to cook prior to eating as fresh, sushi grade salmon. It was slimy and tasted awful. I ate one piece and am honestly hoping to not get food poisoning.
I don’t fault the server here - it’s not his fault the food quality was atrocious. I just would never ever again go near the place as I truly believe their food handling and sourcing practices will eventually make someone very very very sick. If you do eat at one of these businesses, please only order anything that is...
Read moreProbably some of the worst sushi i've had in my life. Before writing this review, I actually attempted to communicate with the restaurant directly and I provided them pictures, not looking for a refund whatsoever but at least an apology for the shocking food I was served. Some of the salmon nigiri pieces were brown. The rice was so overcooked that you could see the kernels of rice start to merge together into a paste. In some of the sushi's, there were salmon pieces that had a visibly hard crust. I quite honestly felt physically ill after trying this sushi.
I saw that the owner reprimanded another bad review a few months ago because we're in the middle of the covid pandemic, that's no excuse to be serving food like I was served, it was honestly shocking.
I will say that the taste of the general tso chicken sauce was good but the sushi was no less...
Read moreI made a mistake, I got the wagyu korean grill option. I paid 120$ for that plate and essentially it was 5 minuscule pieces of wagyu with 2 eggs and some kimchi. In this economy? At the very least, give me enough food to fill my belly for that price. The menu was talking up the sides as if it wasn't just a half cooked egg and some kimchi out of the bucket from TNT.
I've eaten better wagyu in Japan and in Ottawa for far less.
I've heard the sushi are great, but for the korean grill option, avoid it altogether. If you go to korea, you will realize this isn't even an authentic implementation. There's plenty of other korean restaurants around canada doing it correctly,...
