My husband and I have been to a sushigo store downtown Ottawa before and so when we saw that there is one here we decided to try it. We both love sushi so we were looking forward to have some for dinner.
We started by looking at the sushi counter with pre-packaged, ready-to-go options. But they didn't appear to be very new. So we made the decision to get something off their menu. However, we thought the sushi à-la-carte were overpriced.
In the hopes that everything would work out, we went back to get the ones that were already prepared. At the very least, it was noted on the package that we could get miso soup and a cup of tea for a small additional charge. We also made the choice to dine-in.
I must admit when we opened the packages, at first glance the sushi looked more like "kimbap" (Korean style instead of Japanese style sushi) cause the size of each sushi were quite big compared to normal sushi. In fact, some of them were uneven. I find that there is an art in making Japanese sushi and that was just not right. I know that sushigo is also a frenchise, but the taste was not the same as I had before.
Even the miso soup that came to me and my husband were different. Already, you can tell that the color of the soups were different because for some reason, my miso soup looked brown and tasted saltier compared to my husband's miso soup. I suspect they had put soy sauce in it even though I didn't ask for it. My husband complained about this and they did give us a new one. But even the little tofu bites in the miso soup were too firm. Usually, miso soups come with soft tofu.
The service was nothing great either. No greetings or smiles. I wish they could improve this so that customers do want to dine-in or at the very least felt welcomed. You can tell how not a lot of people come in to eat there because it felt uninviting. Maybe some Japanese music in the background could also help the ambience. But honestly, they need to get their sushi skills right first, especially if you want to price it like an actual Japanese restaurant.
I hope that if they read this, they can take it as a constructive criticism and...
Read moreCareful! False adverstising. (Before I get into this, the sushi was delicious) I phoned them to make an order for delivery. I based my order on the prices on their website. When I got the bill for delivery, every single item was more expensive than listed, ranging from $0.80 - $1.55 more than the advertised price. Ex: Crispy Maki @ $8.95 was actually $10.30. Snow Flake @ $6.95 was actually $8.00. So I ended up paying $10 more than I had planned. When I called them and asked them about this, I was given an answer that wasn't too clear, something about the delivery service that they use and yes it was more expensive. It probably wasn't the domain of whoever I was speaking to, so I don't blame them. Regardless, when I ordered, the person taking my order didn't tell me that the prices wouldn't be the ones advertised. There are also no warnings on the website that the prices would go up by 15%. The cherry on top: There is also a $4 delivery fee, LOL! TL;DR, if you call them to order, expect to pay 15% more than you think you will! Despite all that, the sushi was great. I just feel like I got played. Careful,...
Read moreAttention everyone! I have to share my experience with this restaurant. I regret ordering from there!!! The food went straight to the garbage it was most disgusting sushi I every had yuk!!!! I went with my kids and my daughter loves veggie California rolls, but she was quite disappointed to find red pepper in it. I didn't know why they put red peppers in it. So, to remove the peppers, I tried it, and it was disgusting. I couldn't even eat it. I also ordered the poke tryiogy, and it was so disappointing with the portion being so small, and it did not match the price. It smelled so fishy like the fish was old or something, and there was so much sauce. The rice was definitely old, dry, and smelled. I am not even kidding. We also ordered the imperial rolls, and they were full of oil. It looked like they were fried in old oil or something. The soup was meh. Honestly, it was so disappointing for what I spent. I definitely don't recommend...
