West Sushi — Restaurant in Goderich

I ate here pre Covid times and have been meaning to detail my experience with this restaurant. The sushi is not good, it's actually worse than super market, if you can believe it. It's rock hard, unseasoned, and despite being informed that it was 100% gluten free it was definitely not. I can't remember which roll it was but I asked for something without an ingredient, so they had to make one fresh. It must've been a huge inconvenience for them because they actually charged me a premium for making it. I've never had that, if I ask for say veggie maki sans mushroom I still pay the same price of the veggie maki (or better yet some restaurants will comp you with a replacement ingredient) but here I got charged more for making less(?). I'm honestly shocked at how many rave reviews they have, but Goderich is very small town and I'm guessing people there really have no sushi experience to compare it to... So if you're totally new to sushi and live in Goderich here are my tips for you: sushi should not be refrigerated, it should not be served cafeteria style, it should be made masterfully as it is like an art form. I highly recommend travelling to London or Exeter to get a proper sushi experience, do not waste your money here, sushi is expensive and you should get the quality you pay for. Waited 1.3 hours for our food. There was a sweet lady in the back trying her best but the ‘dine-in’ experience was the worst.. I made a reservation for 6:30 on Friday- once we sat down at our table it took her about 15 minutes to talk to us and tell us to order at the front. She seemed very busy in the back room. We made our order and were told it would be a 30 minute wait. Okay. We came back at 7:30, she told me it would take 5 more minutes for the last few things- okay. We waited 25 minutes. At about 8pm she apologized for the wait and insisted we order take out next time instead-as they were backed up with takeout orders. If you can’t serve people in a sit down restaurant, please make it ‘take out only’, it was a huge waste of our time as I thought it would be a nice experience. The only positive experience about this place-which seems to be a trend among all these reviews- is that the lady working was very pleasant and sweet. Unfortunately aside from that, everything was sub par. The sushi rice wasn't sticky, the presentation was very poor, the wait was over 2 hours, I didn't get my drink until my entire table was done their meals (yes I asked for it prior). Top it off it was over $100.00 for 3 rolls of sushi and some chicken. Not to mention we were the only people in dine in. Very unhappy, will not eat here again.
